The 400th episode is here! This time, it’s something fun…

About Linkara

Atop the Fourth Wall is a show about bad comic books. Linkara finds the surreal and the stupid and breaks them down page by page. You'll know why they're idiotic and how they can be improved.

  1. MidnightScreeningsman2014

Saw someone post this and think it’s too genius that it bares repeating:
    Atop the 400th wall

  2. Part 1:
Well, since The Cinema Snob has reviewed the movie a couple years ago, it’s seen appropriate for you to review the comic adaptation, especially for your 400th episode. Wow, it’s hard to believe that you have been doing this job for almost 8 years.
A musical episode, huh? …You’re just ripping off those of The Nostalgia Critic, aren’t you? Nah, just kidding. Nice idea, Lewis.
11:30- HEY! I actually love that movie, as so do a lot of other people. It already made over $870 million at the worldwide box-office, and I even have the movie poster hanging on my wall. And there IS a meaning to the “Martha” scene.
26:27- I wonder if in the movie, the Lonely Hearts Club Band actually drove pass an adult movie theater.
Nice job on the joke based on the quote “We’re bigger than Jesus.”
28:28- This is a weird alternate timeline from “It’s a Wonderful Life.”
31:32- And WHY did Marvel make the “reveal” that Captain America has been with Hydra the whole damn time!?

    Part 2:
1:36- In speaking of AC/DC’s “Shoot to Thrill,” I think Iron Man showing up out of nowhere just the whoop Brute’s ass would be a plus for this comic. Besides, this was also published by Marvel.
4:48- And I’m INSTANTLY reminded of the song “I Hate Music,” which was sung by The Shredder in the TMNT: Coming Out Of Our Shells tour.
6:59- So do those who bought tickets to see this movie when it was in theaters back in the day. =P
9:11- And leading this dark and evil band, …Kanye West. (Bum, bum, buuuuuuuuuum!)
Whatley from the Silent Hill comics forming a band of AT4W villains since Margret blew him away is really freakin’ funny.
I also line the Aerosmith song “I Don’t Want To Miss a Thing,” including the movie it came from.
21:52- Yeah, that plot point came right out of left field. Now make a reveal that Captain America was a Hydra agent this whole time. (I’m sorry, I still cannot get over that fact. What the hell, Marvel!?)
Happy 400th Episode, Linkara. Here’s to 400 more.

    • The Cap thing gets even dumber… it turns out he didn’t want to join Hydra, but he and the Red Skull find out their mothers had the same name, so they’re forced to instantly become buddies.

    • Yeah, the thing about their box office takings, it’s not as much as you might think, especially given that 2 of the most iconic comic characters in movie history are starring, one of whom has had 2 movies making over $1bn, they expected this to make a $1bn as well. From what I’ve heard, they needed $800m just to start making a profit thanks to marketing expenses. In the end, $70m is pretty meagre.

You want proof that DC are worried, just look at every move they’ve made since

Sure the ‘Martha’ scene has meaning, it’s a lazy way to get to two to stop fighting and immediately become best friends.

  3. congrats on making it to 400!! (lifts glass) here’s to another 400.( takes a drink)

  4. As Linkara himself predicts in the episode I really didn’t enjoy this one.

Clearly Linkara is having fun so it’s not a complete waste by any means. Congratulations on this rare milestone and I’m looking forward to your future content.

  5. I know you don’t do manga very often, but now I want to know your opinion on Beck, a manga about an American style Japanese rock band coming together. One of these days, I might try to do a Patreon request just to see that.

    • While they don’t upload their podcasts to ChannelAwesome that often, you would probably have a much better chance requesting Weekly Manga Recap (WMR) to look at it. I know their humor isn’t the same as Linkara’s and it IS a Podcast, not an edited review like this. But they’re still pretty hilarious and they’re kind-of the only guys who come to mind when it comes to reviewing manga consistently on ChannelAwesome, so it could be worth a shot to send them an email and check around on their podbean every month or so to see if they’ve done it yet or something.

  6. Part 1:
21:50 – if they hate love yet love money, does that mean that they hate that they love money?

    Part 2:
I don’t like the episode because of the singing. Any time there was music I just skipped past it to get on with the review.

3:05 – Sgt. Peepers… How did Linkara miss this?

4:00 – Or the robot could be called Rita.

23:30 – They recovered magic wish granting instruments. Why didn’t he think to use them to bring her back from the dead himself?

  7. Hooray!! 400th episode! What are you gonna…oh you’ve gotta be kidding me! Is this real!?! Oh well, I call for a PawDugan cameo!…please?… oh well, worth a shot…

14:37 eeek!! If they don’t get the Cinema Snob for ANY Caligula remake, then I for one don’t know what’s wrong with humanity (kind of hoped for more cameos but I’m not complaining)
    17:36 Linkara’s got soul!! 🙂
19:59 Atop the fourth wall; where this line was just said
31:52 YAAAAAAAAAY this is what I’ve been waiting for!! All the songs are great!!

0:15 another exstential crisis of Linkara’s safely averted 🙂
10:05 what the…? (can I just say your dad is awesome! 🙂 )
14:43 this fits in some many ways in some many different things
    25:53 me too 🙂
    29:39 you too…wait what?!?

Only now do I realize how weird the stuff is you look at is…it’s kind of goofy…(MST3K reference!! Ha!)

Great review, very surreal: also HAPPY 400TH EPISODE!!!! YOU’RE SHOW IS STILL ONE OF MY FAVORITE SHOWS!! WOOHOO!! *clap clap* 🙂

You definetly made me smile; thanks 🙂

  8. As a big Beatles fan, awesome episode to see.

  9. I saw the future there’ll be 2000th episode.

  10. Yay! Congrats on the 400th episode. I think I’ve been watching since the 100th episode… I think. Anyways, I’ve been watching for a long time and I hope to keep watching this series when I’m 50 years old so episode 1000 or episode 2000, I think that would be. LOL. I’m also glad that you decided to do a fun episode. Does this mean that Sgt. Pepper and his band are technically in the Marvel universe? Oh, and that fan, Sheila, was it? She’s awesome for making this possible. Thanks! One last thing: I liked that Steven Universe reference. That was really funny.

  11. Happy 400th Lewis !
Nice set of pipes you got there, I see Harvey isn’t the only crooner.

  12. 2:00 Is not going to be all musical, right? O_O

  13. Flynn Sullivan

So, is this the last episode? Aww.

  14. Peridot could have made a great backup singer. Not sure about Lapis, can she sing?

    • Probably. It seems like every gem can just naturally sing and I think a singer might actually voice her, but we just haven’t seen it happen yet.

  15. The BD logo is supposed to be a take on the Robert Stigwood Organization/RSO Records logo.

So, uh, this comic’s trying to say something about Robert Stigwood…

  16. Nice Revolution X reference.

  17. Laughed so hard at this. Always nice to see you having fun with a review.

  18. He leaves it to his grandson, Billy, to re-form a band that stops war. Billy goes on to become a founding member of Wyld Stallyns!

You’re right: Father Sun is Alice Cooper here. I saw it the second you showed him, before you made the reference. Welcome To My Nightmare (1975) has the song Black Widow, which includes the following lyrics: “Love me, yes we love me. Love him, yes, we love him.”
    It must be deliberate.

    • Duh.
I just remembered that I have a version of Because (the song you credited Father Sun with) sung by Alice with the Bee Gees, for some sort of tribute album (for me it’s on an Alice Cooper B-Sides and rarities collection). I’ve just checked IMDb, and sure enough, Alice Cooper actually plays The Sun King in the movie.

So you knew that already. (Except maybe the reference to one of his songs. The line in the comic still sounds more like Black Widow than Because.)

  19. Who is the guy playing “George Burns” is it your dad? Does he really play guitar? Because, that would be so cool. 😀

  20. I admit this wasn’t as good as the other X00th episodes. I guess it was just something that nobody expected. Well, that was great with “Holy Terror”. This was one of the longest reviews on the whole website, at sixty-seven minutes! I don’t recognize some of these villains. I know a guy who said “Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Band” as his favorite movie.

I saw it once on Wikipedia’s list of worst movies ever. That list always changes! I like how you just shoot him. I look very forward to Digimon and Yu-Gii-Oh. Wait, are those going to be live performances? I’m eagerly awaiting “My Little Pony” comics too!

  21. I’m only four and a half minutes into the first part, but i can tell you put a lot of effort and time into this review and i really love that.

  22. ForumShellGhost

Congrats on 400 episodes! I really appreciate all the laughs and comic trivia you’ve given over the years and I love it when you sing on the show. Keep up the awesome work!

  23. *Swoon* This is awesome. And he said Gloucestershire! Say Herefordshire next, pleeease? That’s where I live X3
