  1. Aw, I thought it would be Norm of the North, like you said on Twitter.
    Whatever…

This movie is not exactly bad, but not exactly good either. Average stuff kinda bores me.

“PG-13 You know you’re not gonna get that”
inb4 someone mentions the unrated version with more gore. It also has some minor plot enhancements, but it’s not that much to a point where it feels like a different movie. Such a shame, the movie could have really been something.

    • At least they later released the Unrated Cut which added more blood.

    • You know what is funny is thinking about the Pg-13 the first week I started seeing tv spots for this movie before it hit theatres it was rated R and by the next week it was pg-13. I asked a few friends to make sure I wasnt crazy and they saw it move from R to Pg-13 also.

  3. Maybe it’s just me, but I didn’t like AvP, primarily it was b/c it’s PG13 since series were supposed to be R. Plus, me and my cousin called bullshit when one single Xenomorph was able to x-off 2 predators.

As for Requiem………I didn’t think it sucked. *hides away*

    • They could do it, because Preds come there to test themselfs. First who died was just some punk-ars on his first alien-hunt. you can seen it by how his mask is generic. So, he just faild.
The secend one is far more interesting story. he is they lider, and his mask is preaty elaborate. My guess is that he is preaty old, provebly long past his prime, and come here for his last hunt, last challenge. Basicly to die in combat. it is why his weapons are not acid reslient, unlike wirstblade, spear and disc of the third Pred, Broken Fang (org from comics if i’m not mistaken). It also match the theme of Weyland situation, and what he was saing, about what matters more.
Also, those are not Your regular aliens. Judgeings by the short time it took from laying egs, to full grown xenomorph, it is safe to asume that either Preds Captain-americans they pray to make it more resilient, or this queen was from other, stronger/purer breed. After all she was from melenias ago…

    • The Pg-13 rating is a huge issue because it happens all the time for movies like this and it seriously cut the balls off the movie. Granted there is alot more wrong with this movie but that didn’t help. AVP R I do not like but I don’t like it for a diffrent reason, most people always mentioned the Pregnant chest burster scene as going to far being sickening and making them hate the movie. Maybe I’m twisted but it didn’t bother me in the slightest. What bothered me was the flat characters, the oddly mean spirited feel, and the fight of the Predalien Vs Predator is so fucking dark you don’t see a damn thing

  4. I’m trying to figure out if the Mack Weldon stuff is genuinely sponsorship or a parody of how it keep showing up in the ad space on facebook, twitter, etc.

  5. Even though the sequel, Aliens Vs. Predator: Requiem was given an R rating, it actually ended up being EVEN WORSE than the first AVP.

  6. This movie doesn’t bother me too much, even when looking at it from a continuity standpoint. I mean there is a 118 year gap between this movie and the original Alien, so any record of this event may be lost to time or so outdated that they weren’t even considered worth looking up. Plus the Predator’s bomb may have destroyed any actual evidence to the event.

Anyway while not as fun as Freddy vs Jason, I did get to see some Aliens fight some Predators. Biggest issue I have is more with how the two get together. Maybe the Predators could have been preparing an attack against a human military colony who recently found some face-huggers. Predators have attacked military personal before and in Alien 2, a human colony was put right on top of a bunch of eggs. Wouldn’t be a stretch to think the same could happen somewhere else.

    • I’ve never seen Requiem so I don’t know if she survives. At the end of this movie she’s alone in Antarctica wearing a shirt. For all we know she still dies. Even if she doesn’t the evidence (such as the bodies of the rest of the team) got blown up.

    • AvP is officially different timeline so it didn’t pretend like Prometheus that it is part of main franchise, even if it create obvious plot-holes.

  7. Requiem sucks!

    Aye!

    It sure does!

  8. God, I forgot how hot Sanaa Lathan is in this.

  9. The problems You adress in this are explaineble if You look at this univers.
Time of aliens bearing proces could be effect of it beeing older breed of queen that thos from an Alien 1-2 movies, or they can be modified by Preds to be a biger chalange.
Preds don’t drop aliens eggs on the planet and then come back after a year, because they want to hunt some aliens, not to crawl through milions of them. In the comic books it is spaculated, that faild hunting expeditions resulted in spreding Aliens on many planets. Also, if they would do that, aliens would wipe us out. And then how would Preds hunt Arnolds?
When did facehuger grab Broken Fang? Right after scarification, it is shown in the movie.
Why did xenomorph coming from Preds is predalien not alien? Well, this is what they do! This is why they have this stupid breading cycle, needin a hos – by taking traits from a hose they do adapt to the enviroment. That is why they are xenoMORPHS. Also it was established and show in the franchise before in Alien 3, where alien burst out of the dog, and was smaller, look difrent and more likle to walk on 4 legs.
Why queen wanted to kill Broken Fang? Because she was pist off, wounded animal, and he was not carring a other queen (like Replay was in the Alien 3), but a drone. Drones are meaningless.

  10. MountCDOSgamer

“Why would it mix with his DNA creating a new creature?”
Because that’s exactly how Xenomorph reproduction works! The face huggers impregnate the their victims to create offspring with traits of their victims to adapt to the environment.

    • Yep, that’s why we got a canine-Alien in Alien 3–face-hugger got the dog. A Predalien should be pants-wettingly scary once grown (of course, the one at the end of this movie was kinda cute!).

  11. I still enjoy watching this movie, and I own the unrated cut that adds more blood. I remember how excited I was to see it in theaters. I also like watching the sequel. Yeah, I know in the sequel, it’s dark in some scenes, the characters are stock, and the directors later went on to make that POS movie “Skyline,” but I liked the Predalien and how badass the Predator was in that film.

  12. That Queen Alien sure was sexy1 But she could look better in … Mack Weldon!

  13. Most boring of all aliens movies.

  14. Can you talk about the MTV series Good Vibes and Daria?

On a side note, I mention this all before, why don’t you review a classic horror like this one I’ve finally found after all these years after just seeing a few scenes of it and never knowing how it ended. It’s called Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama. You might like it. Maybe.

Also what do think of these TV series shows called:
    John Doe
    Forever Knight
    The Misfits (British Show)
Misfits of Science (Movie and series)
    and The Zeta Project
(I think some of these shows are like Sonic the Hedgehog a.k.a. Sonic Sat a.m. They all have incomplete ending.)

P.S. Is there anyway you can review the Japanese versions of Ironman, Wolverine, X-men and Blade? I’d also really like to hear what you think about the FX series Archer and Chozen.

P.S.S. And I never found out if you were going talk more about the Disney Afternoon shows Gummi Bears, Chip N Dale’s Rescue Rangers, Talespin(even the hour uncut movie special I found about it) and Darkwing Duck. Also you never answer my question, If you hate the Goof Troop song: “Gotta Be Gettin’ Goofy” then does that mean you hate The Darkwing Duck Rap?

  15. Well, I’m not actually a huge horror movie fan, and I really enjoyed this movie because I liked the predator/human dynamic at the end. It felt more like an action movie than a horror movie; which is probably why i could stand to sit through the whole thing. Also, I got super excited at the Civil War mention because I absolutely loved that movie and pretty much all my comic friends hated it so it’s nice to feel validated lol.

    • Indeed. My hubby and I even liked how they adapted this idea of a Human-Hunter from one of the better AVP novels. The interaction between the Predator and the Human woman trying to survive a Hunt gone wrong with the Aliens getting the upper claw was the best part of the book. Most memorable was when the woman communicated with her hands and body language but added a smile–which the Predator took as bearing her teeth at him to show she wasn’t afraid of him. She was marked by a Predator in a similar way. We appreciated the homage in this movie.

  16. My biggest complaint with this movie was how rushed it was. At 90 minutes it didn’t have enough time for all the characters it introduced. If you’re going to try to make us care about 6 or 7 people we need them to have more than two lines each and enough screen time to get to know them. I knew this was going to be a problem as soon as we hear “It has aspects of three civs” and based on a single blurry photo and only seconds of study the guy says “yep, it’s the first civ.” The story was in a hurry to get to the action, and it still didn’t arrive until half way through the movie.

  17. I’m frankly surprised no one mentioned the Halloween Horror Nights maze inspired by the movie.

  18. TragicGuineaPig

There’s a pyramid in Antarctica with xenomorphs and predators? Just be glad it’s not a cyclopean city with non-Euclidean architecture full of giant shape-shifting amoeba.

  19. Your commercials are hilarious and decent so that I actually want to watch them. I feel it’s an important part of the show, and it’s actually entertaining and decent for ‘commercial break’.
Loved this entire one, it was great!
And yes, Requiem does suck. I love all the alien/predator movies, even Resurrection, but I can’t stand Requiem.

  20. While not the worst ever, the most infuriating thing about this movie is it could’ve been so much better, and an R rating would’ve helped for sure. At least pay respect to your source material instead of watering it down for kids. Yeah yeah, clearly financially motivated but come on.

There’s definitely some cool sequences in there, (I don’t think you even showed the shot of the predator jumping down into frame and stabbing the queen in the head with a harpoon!) but something felt off overall. Like some other Paul W. S. Anderson movies, he seems more preoccupied with the setting and the production design than the characters. It kind of works in Event Horizon, but In AvP they spend way too much time focused on this lame temple rather than the aliens and predators we all paid to see. Obviously atmosphere and setting are important, but in a silly ‘versus’ movie like this, sometimes you just got to get to the goods.

  21. Been waiting on this one ever since the “The Shining” review. 😀

  22. $42 for a t shirt? Er…. no..

  23. There’s a moment where a face huger did get onto the predator. It’s very brief.

  24. The Critic’s thesis in the review was to essentially say, “AVP is not so bad because it’s just goofy action. It’s a fun B movie”.

Well to me that’s the exact problem: That AVP *is* “just a B-movie” when the original Alien movies were so much more than that.

The entire appeal of the original Alien was that it was a “B movie done A”. They took what is typically considered a crappy B movie idea (monster on a spaceship played by a guy in a rubber suit), but then elevated the premise. Instead of being corny, goofy, cheesy or campy, Alien had characters that felt like real people you actually cared about, an engaging believable world you could immerse yourself in, a monster that felt truly alien and horrifying, and interesting themes and metaphorical elements. The original Alien has a lot of subtext about rape, sexuality, motherhood, feminism, and the Lovecraftian horror of humanities place in a dark uncaring universe. That’s a lot of “high brow” stuff for such a “low brow” premise.

In a sense it’s much like how George Lucas took took crappy Flash Gordon/Buck Rogers film serials and turned it into Star Wars. Or Spielberg took treasure-hunter cliffhanger serials and turned it into Indiana Jones. Or like how Tarantino took 70’s exploitation movies and made Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill. Likewise that’s what Alien did: It took the B movie premise and made it something more.

But then AVP comes along and it’s not a “B movie done A” but just an ordinary B movie. It’s just a superficial slugfest between two stock movie monsters with no interesting characters or ideas. Just campy disposable crap like Freddy vs Jason or King Kong vs Godzilla.

And if the entire point of the original two Alien movies is that they are “A Movies”, why the hell should I be interested when it’s turned into a B-movie?

And you may ask, “Oh but what’s the harm? It’s just goofy fun.” The harm is that it damages the series credibility. In this very video the Critic bemoaned that they’re, “Still making Alien movies” and that the premise was, “Played out”. Well if it wasn’t for the AVP movies the series wouldn’t be played out! The series might have still had some potential! But instead that potential gets blown by making some generic B movie.

  25. I actually loved this movie. Movies where the badass lead chick is a badass lead chick tend to have my vote.

  26. The movie was awesome as well as meh and bleh. But We agree. Requirem sucks!

  27. In one episode of Movie Fights Max Landis actually had a pretty kick-ass pitch for an Alien movie set in the Stone Age, where a primitive hunter would have to fight for his survival against the xenomorph in order to survive.
That would’ve been a way cooler version of this movie. A human Stone Age hunter caught in the middle of the Alien vs. Predator war. You can preserve most of the best parts by just adapting it to a new setting.

  28. Paul WS Anderson is like Michael Bay – If Michael Bay’s bad movies had some genuinely well crafted cinematography that used more than five of the same camera move and angle.

They both make terrible movies, but Anderson’s are at least somewhat watchable. AVP was kind of boring, predictable, but not insulting or filled with cringe…it’s a C- student.

  29. YES! I JUST saw this for the first-time last month. This is the only Aliens movie I’ve ever seen and this is the only Predators movie that I’ve ever seen. Since it was mostly green blood, I could totally handle this movie. Heck, I didn’t know that it would take the Facehuggers days. O.O I like this movie but I wish she had gone with the aliens at the end. It’s probably because my brain is 90% jock and 10% intellectual (that I use up at work, church… and in the occasional comment). The Snoop Dogg-Martha Stewart and Slipknot jokes especially made me laugh. Heck, the high-five miss joke made me choke on my drink. Lastly, I wish there was a lady version of Mack Weldon. (Matilda Weldon?) That’s a great idea.

    • Chicken Puppet

“I wish she had gone with the aliens at the end”

Well, here’s the thing…since you didn’t see the other movies you might not realize that the Predators are highly intelligent and technologically advanced, while the Xenomorphs (Aliens) are animals driven only by instinct with an insect-like social structure and life cycle. It’s like trying to team up with a giant scorpion.

      • OH! I actually meant the Predators. Since the Predators are also aliens, I just typed without remembering that the opposite group’s only name is aliens, you know? I wish she had just lived with the Predators.

  30. Yes! I have been waiting since the Shinning for you to make this review!
