Big Hero 6 – Honest Review

The Countdown to The Age of Ultron begins a new with the most obscure Marvel Superhero Team of them all!

About Blockbuster Buster

  1. How is this a Countdown to Age of Ultron when AoU was released last year?

    • It’s a countdown to his review of Age of Ultron.

    • The poor titling of this honest review series aside, this is the kind of review I believe you excel at…not so much your attempt at comedic ones.

Also…While I fully agree that this is a Marvel movie, what makes this a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie? You did nothing to establish that it was or wasn’t one.

    • …My other comment wasn’t meant to be a reply, my apologies. My internet relapsed. And besides, someone else ended up beating me to it.

As for the Countdown to the Age of Ultron thing…I personally love the way he did those intro sequences with the Agents of SHIELD theme. Give it a better name (like, maybe, countdown to Civil War?) and I’ll buy it.

  2. Movie was ok and nothing more

  3. My favorite line is when Baymax tries to imitate the bro-fist, with hilarious results. Ba-la-la-la-la

  4. Wow what a coincidence, I finally saw this one just a couple days ago. I didn’t like it quite as much as Wreck-It Ralph, but it was still a very enjoyable movie.

  5. 1:30 ‘trailer’ is a bit much.

  6. What a coincidence. I was just listening to Immortals this morning. LOL. Anyways, I LOVED this movie. My only complaint was that it was just too short. Just as they were starting to get the hang of their powers and gear… movie over. -_-

  7. I had no idea this was a Marvel thing when I watched it. Boy was I surprised and confused when Stan Lee showed up. When I saw the painting I thought maybe it was some kind of joke, or some of the animators were big fans, but then he has that scene with Fred and I’m like WTF?

I dunno, ‘woman up’ doesn’t quite work for me. If feels too much like a response to ‘man up’. I realize that’s what it IS, but it comes across more like ‘I can be tough too!’ than it does ‘I am tough’. Not saying it’s a bad phrase, it just didn’t click for me.

  8. “An All Japanese Team.”

    Wait, wasn’t Hiro Ainu?

Why isn’t there a TVTropes page on the comic?
    Wikipedia it is then.

Can’t find confirmation, most i could find is Hiro and his brother are half Japanese Half White in the movie.

Man I havent seen this movie and I didnt even watch it on TV when my dad and sister were watching it on TV and I’ve heard so many good things about it and that Stan Lee cameo man was I not expecting it when I heard he was in it.

I remember Doug’s DisneyCember o this movie being one of the most popular for a while but I remembered him not really liking it really that much as other people did but don’t get me wrong he still liked it.

I remember peoples biggest complaint with this one was that the villian was really weak and I still don’t get it cause he killed his brother for dang sakes why do people not like him again is my big question? So I
guess I should check this out one day but I don’t really wanna cry at his brother dieing so I’ll go in caution when I watch it but try to keep the tears back. Wish me luck!!!¡

  10. Fun Fact: The “Obscure Marvel Comic” that he wanted to adapt was Rom The Space Knight, unfortunately, that liscence is stuck in limbo, because Hasbro own the rights to Rom, but Marvel own literally everything else to do with his mythos. Neither side is willing to sell their side to the other, so the chances of getting Rom anytime soon are slim to none.

However, as a nod to the franchise, he managed to sneak the costume of Torpedo (A hero who had a lackluster solo run, but people fell in love with when he became Rom’s sidekick) into the big line of superhero costumes in Fred’s mansion.

  11. The only problem I had with this movie was the age of the protagonist vs the age of his team members. I couldn’t get over finding it reaaaaally hard to suspend my disbelief at a group of talented college students lining up behind a high school kid that’s drawn like a 10 year old and acts like a 15 year old. I just couldn’t get over it.

  12. Honestly “boy befriends robot” is the only thing I can think of that this movie has in common with The Iron Giant.

Baymax wasn’t built with any weapons, the government didn’t go after Baymax, Hiro didn’t try to keep Baymax a secret from anyone, Baymax didn’t have a heroic sacrifice at the end, there was no mystery about where Baymax came from, Baymax performed his intended function without trying to resist his programming… oh and im pretty sure there weren’t any superheroes in The Iron Giant

I mean, if you think Big Hero Six ripped off The Iron Giant, then clearly The Iron Giant ripped off Short Circuit. Those two are far more similar in their plot and the character’s relationships.

  13. I’m sure they changed Gogo’s look because animator’s 101 is, that emotions and sympathy are transmitted over the eyes. If her eyes aren’t visible (honestly, I hate costumes with something stupid blocking the eyesight, looks ridiculous – see Star Trek Next Generation…), she got less appeal to the viewer.

At least that’s what I’m guessing.

  14. When the movie focused on Hiro and Baymax it was great. Hiro was relatable, Baymax was adorable, and their relationship developed very nicely.

When it tried to be a superhero movie it was just meh. Not bad, but dull and predictable with one-dimensional supporting characters.

  15. My full on opinion of this movie is this…. “it’s okay”. I do like the animation, the relationship between Baymax and Hiro, the action sequences and also the mixture of San Francisco and Tokyo. But ultimately, I felt like it was missing one or two things that could have made it better. One is definitely the side-characters, as they are underdeveloped. I can’t put my finger on what the second missing thing is, but lets just say that it is noticeable. I like Big Hero 6 and I hope they do a sequel, but I didn’t like it as much as everyone else did.

  16. Well, you made me reconsider my opinion on this movie. Maybe I was a tiny bit too harsh on it the first time I saw it: it DID have some really good scenes…Though I agree with you: what they did with Fredzilla kinda sucks…
