Big Trouble in Little China – Tamara’s Never Seen

What?!? Neither of them have seen Big Trouble in Little China? Tamara is joined by Doug so they both can finally see this classic. Also, hair and goatee flips for all.

About Channel Awesome

  1. “Biiig trouble…in little Chiiiina!”

I fucking love this movie. it’s one of those films that just epitomizes the 80s.

  2. Yep, I’ve never seen this either like 95% of Tamara’s Never Seen. Ooh, I may look for this today. It sounds like something I would enjoy.

  3. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this in it’s entirety. Parts here and there… way back, in the olden days of dinosaurs and VHS.

  4. John Carpenter, Kurt Russel, and the 80’s is magic.

Both Beetlejuice and Neverending Story are amazing classics that came at the perfect times in my life growing up, Neverending Story as a kid and Beetlejuice as a young teen. Both are awesome.

  5. AmbrosiusAurelianus

Glad you got to see it! I saw it a few years ago, on the recommendation of a friend who also couldn’t believe I had never seen it. One thing I also really like–in addition to all the stuff you guys mentioned–is how the movie makes you think Kurt Russell is going to be the hero, but then slyly makes his friend Wang the actual hero. Wang is the noble one with the quest to save his true love, Wang is responsible, Wang can fight…it’s kind of clever and funny how the guy you think is going to be the hero is actually the comedic sidekick, and the “sidekick” is actually the hero.

    • Snorgatch Pandalume

Yes, that’s exactly what I love about it. Kurt Russell is clearly doing a John Wayne impression and his character clearly thinks he’s the hero, but he’s actually the comic relief sidekick.

  6. waitwaitwait… Dougs a friend of spoony and hung out with him alot… And has never seen the movie..? I have doubts…

  7. Wait… you’re not supposed to take Darkman seriously? …Boy, I have been watching that movie wrong.

  8. I showed this to my friend for the first time last year…

(About an hour in) ME: Hurry back! The movie’s about to do another WTF moment!
FRIEND: This whole movie is a WTF moment!

  9. Douglas as the father of Nostalgia on the internet HOW THE FUCK HAVE YOU NOT SEEN BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA???

Christ i fucking loved it as a 80s kid and it was one of my fave films of all time. Its so off the wall and silly and i loved that little chinese guy with the wonky eye Eggshen. Hell you need to go back to your 3 ninjas kids review and add Big trouble jokes into it!

Anyway all iam gonna say is you are on report meladdo and anymore 80s and early 90s slipups and your fired!! LOL

  10. The Movie Explorer

The thing that always gets me about the explosion scene is that it cuts to the hallway outside, and we see what looks like cole-slaw flying out. I can just picture the scene:

J.C.: We need some guts, quick! What do we have that we could use right now! RIGHT NOW, people! The studio is on my ass to get this finished today!
PA: I found this head of cabbage from that salad Barb made for lunch.
    J.C.: I love it! Let’s roll, people!

Oh, and now you need to see Zu: Warriors from the Magic Mountain, the film that inspired J.C. to make BTiLC.

  11. Snorgatch Pandalume

For anyone who loves this movie, check out a video on Youtube called “David Lo Pan Style.” You will like.

  12. When I saw this movie the first time, I didn’t get it at all, but I got it the second time, though incidentally it was my friend’s first time seeing it and he didn’t get it. Maybe seeing it again makes it make more sense somehow?

  13. Since you seemed to like this one so much, might I suggest another John Carpenter film. “They Live.”

  14. I’m so glad you guys loved this movie. So many quotable lines from it. And you hit the nail on the head with your observation that so many things in this movie that wouldn’t work in most movies just somehow seems to work in this one. Just a fun ride. Oh and Margo, the reporter who didn’t have many lines? That’s Richard Burton’s daughter.

“Here’s to the Army and Navy and the battles they have won. Here’s to American’s colors, the colors that never run.”
“May the wings of liberty never lose a feather.”

  15. Daniel Brizuela

I too have not seen this film. I want to, though.

  16. thatchickwithlonghair

This sounds amazing. I will watch it someday. xD

  17. This is Spoony’s favorite movie! I can’t believe you didn’t mention that! I personally thought this was good, but not great. I mean, the main character did get annoying, but I still mostly liked him. I wouldn’t compare it to something like “Mad Max: Fury Road”. I think this is the only time Doug was in one of these episodes.
