  1. I never knew what Donnie Darko was about until now. Heck, I didn’t know that Jake Gyllenhaal and Drew Barrymore were in it. It doesn’t seem like my type of movie though. Lastly, the fact that you remembered any fan’s name is astounding. That is so cool. 👏O.O

    • If you like interesting movies with compelling characters and a sense of intrigue…you’ll like this movie.

Take the deeper meaning stuff away and it’s still a well shot, well acted film with gripping characters.

    • Well.. you didn’t know because even creator didn’t. Richard Kelly is horrible (not in technical but story) director who by coincidence make good movie.

Donnie Darko is my second favorite movie of all time (right after Night of the Hunter which btw, I would highly, HIGHLY recommend to any and all film buffs). I was lucky enough to watch the Director’s Cut before the theatrical cut (I bought it on DVD, so I didn’t even notice there was a difference to be honest :p). It’s a confusing movie, but the premise is so cool and the acting is fantastic, so it’s well worth the watch. I also love the soundtrack to this movie. Also, I agree with you that the best scenes in the film are when Donnie confronts his teacher about how there’s more to emotion than “Fear” and “Love” and when he confronts Patrick Swayze’s character at the presentation and calling him “the fucking Antichrist”. Frank, of course, is amazingly creepy. The one other thing that I love the most about this movie is the creativity with cinematography. I love the scene where Donnie goes to school because not only does it play with the direction and speed of the camera, it introduces all of the major characters in a fluid way. Overall, 10/10 film.

Someone should mention the great 80s alt-rock/new wave soundtrack, may as well be me!
