  1. Super Mecha Death Christ

Can’t wait for the Gravity Falls episode!

  2. Yes! He is doing best Gravity Falls episodes! Wasn’t expecting that for Nostalgiaween, but I guess it’s mostly fitting as the show does work as a horror series at times.

  3. Yay! More Stephen King!

    SCARING THE LITTLE GIRL?!

  4. ThatManWithTheHeadband12

I don’t get how it’s so random for a special needs kid to have an attachment to Scooby Doo and feel like his friends could be a bunch of mystery solvers just like Mystery Incorporated AND be soothed by singing. Or have a hand gesture that becomes something of a signature symbol for him. The reason the Scooby Doo theme was made a battle cry was because the dealings with Mr. Gray were unfinished business from the day they met Duddits. They’re motivated by him. They dedicate their cabin trips to him. It made perfect sense to me. However the movie throws this away by making him an alien. Why would the alien take the form of a special needs kid? Wouldn’t it make more sense to be a human more highly functioning?

  5. Hey, Doug? I don’t know if you’ll take review recommendations on this site, but if you do, I want to recommend something called ‘Musical Hell.’ This site won’t let me put the actual http on here, but you can look it up. It’s hosted by this ‘Demon’ called Diva and she reviews horrible movie and TV musicals. Ironically this month she DID a Scooby Doo Direct To Video- Music Of The Vampire. I highly recommend checking her out. I think she’d make a great addition to your site!

  6. Well. Now I know where Sweet Pool’s menstruating monsters out of ass idea came from.

  7. My mom used to own this movie on DVD, and I thankfully never watched it. Still, I cannot get enough of Stephen King during Nostalgia-Ween. Yay!

Speaking as someone whose had an ulcer, I know what it’s like to have something bloody coming out of your ass. It’s not a pretty site.

Of course this movie takes place in King’s fictional Maine town of Derry. Why shouldn’t it be? Also, Henry should do better as a skull t-shirt wearing vigilante who kills the mob for revenge over the death of his family.

In speaking of old-timey cartoon catchphrases, the scene of the hunter on the toilet is really more than meets the eye. And the Daniel Stern cry from Home Alone fits as well as Miss Piggy saying “I swear to Christ.”

At least Morgan “What about the shit weasels?” Freeman later played Lucius Fox in The Dark Knight Trilogy.

Jonesy being possessed reminds me too damn much of Matthew Broderick as Robo-Gadget.

Ah, God bless that Bastard Film Brain.

I agree that Jonsey in his mind calling Henry on the phone through a gun is one of the stupidest things I ever heard of next to Donald Trump wanting to be President of the United States.

Wow, that ending plot twist came out of fuckin’ nowhere. Thankfully, Lawrence Kasdan made a major step up when he did The Force Awakens.

  8. You know, I can’t remember “Duddits” turning into an alien in the book. Course I can’t remember most of the book as it was so bad.

I’ve come to the conclusion that the car that hit King knocked all the talent out of him.

  9. Nostalgia Critic,

Would you consider doing your Top 11 “Red Dwarf” episodes in the future? In one video you said you were a fan and in the 2018, it will be the 30th anniversary of the show! Also there are 2 new seasons coming out this year and next.

    • The Real Silverstar

You know, *you* could do that instead of asking someone else to do it. Dena of The Film Den didn’t ask Doug Walker to do Red Dwarf vlogs for her, she went ahead and began making her own, and they’re entertaining. You clearly have an opinion on the show, so why not give it a shot?

  10. Doug: “OK, Tamara and Malcolm, for your 1st scene, I need you 2 to appear with stains in your pants and say that you peed over yourselves”.
    Tamara and Malcolm: “Wait, what?!”

  11. Morgan Freeman Rule of Thumb: If it’s old Morgan Freeman and he’s clean-shaven, expect him to have weird eyebrows.

  12. For January you have to review the Stephen King films you have yet to review.

  13. Is there anyway you can review the Japanese versions of Ironman, Wolverine, X-men and Blade?

Can you also talk about the MTV series Good Vibes and Daria?

And on a side note, I mention this all before, why don’t you review a classic horror like this one I’ve finally found after all these years after just seeing a few scenes of it and never knowing how it ended. It’s called Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama. You might like it. Maybe.

Also what do think of these TV series shows called:
    John Doe
    Forever Knight
    The Misfits (British Show)
Misfits of Science (Movie and series)
    and The Zeta Project
(I think some of these shows are like Sonic the Hedgehog a.k.a. Sonic Sat a.m. They all have incomplete ending.)

P.S. Is there anyway you can review the Japanese versions of Ironman, Wolverine, X-men and Blade? I’d also really like to hear what you think about the FX series Archer and Chozen.

P.S.S. And I never found out if you were going talk more about the Disney Afternoon shows Gummi Bears, Chip N Dale’s Rescue Rangers, Talespin(even the hour uncut movie special I found about it) and Darkwing Duck. Also you never answer my question, If you hate the Goof Troop song: “Gotta Be Gettin’ Goofy” then does that mean you hate The Darkwing Duck Rap?

    • So, how many more times are you going to post these same word for word requests? Ten? Twenty? Just give us a number.

Seriously, guy. Why don’t you just review all of these things yourself if you like them so much? Does the whole of your sanity really hinge on knowing whether or not Doug Walker likes the Darkwing Duck rap?

  14. Can I ask, who is standing in for Wendy in your remake of the “Gravity Falls” opener?

  15. what does the secret message from the Gravity Falls parody intro says?

  16. I remember getting the book from the library, and even there it just seams to meander along. Heck, King’s book “From a Buick 8” was more interesting!

i figured you’d go straight for the “Jonesy” accent in this one…it was too easy to pass up.

I don’t know what it was with the film, but they actually tried to make it ‘stranger’ than King’s book. In the book, Duddits is not an alien (I have no idea why they made him into one here, and just how he could be one unless his mother or father was one!!), but a psychic friend who gave them their powers, and helps stop the alien’s water plan.

Plus, in the book, Freeman’s character is more of an R Lee Ermey type, who basically dies by jumping out of a helicopter, and firing at our two guys until he goes splat…yeah, that was all there was in the book! Guess it looked cooler and more-insane if he ate it in a helicopter.

Oh and yes, the ‘Scooby-doo’ thing is in the book. The boys use it as their catchphrase when they need to do something big: “Scooby-dooby-doo. We got some work to do.”

  17. “Dreamcatcher” is a bit of a trainwreck, but nevertheless, I find the movie to be strangely fascinating and entertaining, especially because it’s such an anomaly in Lawrence Kasdan’s directorial career. I wrote up a defense of it on my blog 4 years ago:

    http://iceboxmovies.blogspot.com/2012/05/dreamcatcher-2003-lawrence-kasdans.html

  18. I don’t know if it’s just for me, but i think the NC mic is having an issue. The left speaker sound is inconsistant and it’s a little bit annoying.

  19. I started laughing as soon as you described the premise for this movie!
You know, this is the first review of a Stephen King movie Tamara’s been in. The last two years, she’s been sick for them!
And clearly Morgan Freeman had so much screen time as an excuse to hear his voice.

  20. Never watched Gravity Falls so Im gonna skip that

    • Four downvotes? Uh, do people think Gravity Falls is the best show ever or something? It’s no Avatar: The Last Airbender or Steven Universe. You get four downvotes for not wanting to watch something about Gravity Falls? Ugh.

      • The Real Silverstar

Looks like it. Can’t go against a fan-favorite show, I suppose, even though the offending poster merely said that he/she has never seen Gravity Falls, not that he/she isn’t a fan.

Funny thing, I’m not a fan of Adventure Time or Steven Universe (though I did enjoy Gravity Falls), so I guess this comment will get down-voted too.

        • Wow, we have a LOT of angry Gravity Falls fans, because he got three more downvotes in that short amount of time and I got three downvotes.

Really? Gravity Falls? Is that show worth downvoting non-fans over? I never said it was a bad show, but… think of it this way: If someone said Johnny Bravo wasn’t that great, would they be right? Yeah! It’s very cheap animation and very lazy, sometimes cynical writing. Would that person get a ton of downvotes? Of course! But that’s not really fair!

      • I think that people may be interpreting that post as the author attempting to snark on Gravity Falls, even though he/she only said that he/she hasn’t seen it, not that he/she thinks that Gravity Falls is bad.

Personally, I enjoyed GF much more than I did Avatar: The Last Airbender and I don’t care for Steven Universe, but different strokes for different folks. I’ll probably get some down votes for typing that, but that’s my opinion and I stand by it.

  21. The bully looks exactly like a young Bill Compton from True Blood – don’t think it’s him though…

  22. The book was actually a lot better. Not perfect, mind you, but a fun read.

  23. Wait a minute, didn’t Chester die during the Phantom of the Opera review?

  24. Oh, I get why he has an English accent in that scene, it’s suppose to help show which is the alien in control of his body, and which is him. Though I have to wonder, why does an alien have an English accent?

  25. You should consider reviewing Scooby Doo and the Ghoul School. I remembered watching as a kid but after watching it recently I realized how much of a mess it truly was.

  26. Watched about 4 episodes of Gravity Falls and it reminded me of the meh cartoons of the 90’s…like Doug. *lol*

    • The Real Silverstar

The wha…? I don’t see any similarities between Doug and Gravity Falls, at all. Maybe that’s why I’m not laughing out loud, ’cause I don’t see the correlation.

    • I am not one to say someone has to like something. But the comparison to “Doug” kind of throws me. The two shows are about as far apart as two shows can be while still both being about cis gendered white males in middle school.

Am I forgetting an episode where Doug met a race of gnomes?

  27. Did I miss something? Why is this movie called ‘Dreamcatcher’ in the first place? It had nothing to do with dreams or a dream catcher object, at least from what I just saw. Anyone care to explain?

    • The book is far more confusing than the movie and is open to interpretation…but…phew…in the book, the idea is that there actually wasn’t an alien possessing Jonesy. It was a split personality that latched on to the psychological trauma caused by the car accident as well as the sh’t weasel attack, and was brought to life as a result of Duddits’ influence.

The idea that was vaguely hinted at in the movie is that when the four befriended Duddits, who was an actual psychic, he transferred part of his ability on to them. They likened it to being parts of a dreamcatcher, interlinked and bringing what is a “dream” to life, although Duddits was the main piece. Yet they also discovered soon after was that if they mutually felt negatively about something strong enough, they could cause it to happen through mutual hate. It wasn’t shown in the movie, but they ended up using Duddits’ power to kill that bully. They liken that to the equivalent of a “nightmare passing through the dreamcatcher”.

Yeah, it’s a weak analogy, it’s really weird, just like the book is really weird…and, on top of all of that, there’s several hints in the book to indicate that Mr. Gray is yet another incarnation of Pennywise from “It”.

  28. lilith_ascennding

Jason, stop trying to make “Fuck me, Freddy!” happen. It is not going to happen!

Also, SOOOOOOO excited for the Gravity Falls episode next week ^^. Can’t wait to see your choices, Doug! 😀

  29. Funny story about my Gravity Falls experience. A friend of mine demanded that I watch My Little Pony, and naturally I refused and figured it was just a really stupid, overrated piece of crap. But, I ultimately gave in and watched it…and I’m glad I was wrong. My Little Pony is amazing and I’m so glad to have watched it! Later on, my same friend then demanded I watch Gravity Falls. Much like My Little Pony, I refused and thought it was overrated and looked too dumb. This time my friend and I reached a compromise: I would watch one Gravity Falls episode for every Littlest Pet Shop episode HE watched. We both agreed, and ultimately we both ended up loving the show we each were forced to watch. So, while I wouldn’t say I ADORE the show, I will admit that Gravity Falls is awesome! This would be MY personal top 11 list:

    1. Fight Fighters
    2. Headhunters
    3. Not What He Seems
    4. Dreamscaperers
    5. Irrational Treasure
    6. Weirdmageddon 3: Take Back The Falls
    7. Dungeons, Dungeons & More Dungeons
    8. Gideon Rises
    9. A Tale Of Two Stans
    10. Dipper & Mabel Vs. The Future
    11. Blendin’s Game

  30. This movie is nothing butt trouble. (Rimshot)
