  1. I watch all the DC Animated Movies a lot. It’s my greatest collection. I watch 31 movies on DCember. I find curious that even if the 3 movies you picked are 3 of the best, they are pretty similar. Specially Red Hood and Phantasm (someone from Bruce’s past is now an angry avengfull anti-hero who wants nothing but to kill the Joker).

My personal favorite is The Flashpoint Paradox. It’s fun and brutal. Flash’s character is very likely on this one. SPOILER I also love things like the skinny Superman, Wonder Woman killing Steve Trevor, Rifter kicking ass while dying, Aquaman dismembering Cyborg, the bullet time scene and specially Flash running to change history with his broken leg.

    • Runners up: Red Hood, Public Enemies, Gods and monsters, Assault on Arkham, Wonder Woman, GL: First Flight, Batman and Superman: The Movie (technically a 3 part episode of Superman, but released as a movie 2), Return of the Joker, JLA Adventures: Trapped in time.

    • I would say Batman Mask of the Phantasm and Red Hood are my favorite DC animated movies with the slight edge going to Phantasm.

Holy shit, was my mind blown when I saw that in theaters in 93.

  2. OH! I’m glad I double checked the site. I almost missed this video somehow. O.O I realized that I haven’t seen any DC Animated movies so I don’t really have anything to say. Yes, I am ashamed. LOL. I hope that I get to see Civil War in time for your review next week. Fingers crossed.

  3. I love Batman: Under the Red Hood! So happy to see it was picked!

Definitely, definitely do Batman: The Animated Series! Maybe also do Superman: The Animated Series?

  4. Dark knight returns part 1 and 2

  5. The Mysterious M

Under the Red Hood is definitely one of my favorites. Mostly for John DiMaggio’s amazing (and surprising) performance as the Joker. I only knew him as Bender from Futurama and Jake from Adventure Time, so I thought, “this is always the type of role he plays; a wise-cracking, but lovable sidekick.” And then I saw this…man that was just a complete transformation and 180. It really cemented him as one of my favorite VAs.

Some of my other favorites are Sub-Zero, Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker, and The Dark Knight Returns.

Least favorite, it’s not that it’s bad, it’s just really “meh,” and I just can’t grasp the concept of it: The Batman vs Dracula

  6. I haven’t seen many Dec animated films, although I think I will have to check out Under the Red Hood now. Of what I’ve seen Return of Joker would be my favourite, I’m also a Terry McGinnis fan.

As for how I read comics, I do mostly digital now, it’s convenient and doesn’t take up so much space. I still get tpb of comics I really want to have copies of.

Suggestions for future episodes: I’d like to hear what your favourite Batman Animated episodes are. Also it be cool if you covered iZombie at some point, even though it’s nothing like the comic (which put me off for ages!). It would be good to see episodes on comic stuff outside the big 2 as well.

  7. not sure if it says more about our viewing habits or DCs output that all three picks here were batman movies

    • More than half of all the DC Animated Movies (or non Animated Movies too) are about Batman. 2nd place is Justice League and third Superman. There are 2 GL ankmated movies, 1 about Wonder Woman, one about Gen 13 (Wildstorm), one Teen Titans movie (2 if you count Justice League vs Teen Titans) and that short movie based on a comic inside the Watchmen comic. Everything else is about Batman, JLA or Superman. There is The Flashpoint Paradox that is a JLA movie focused on Flash, Throne of Atlantis focused on Aquaman, and Assault on Arkham (that is a Suicide Squad movie that appears to be a Batman movie).

  8. TragicGuineaPig

    Here’s something kind of neat:

    M-ARKHAM-ILL.

    Think about it.

    • TragicGuineaPig

Also, I have to point out that the name “Phantasm” is never actually used in the film. The villain is always referred to as “Angel of Death.”

My favorite episode of BTAS: the one where Batman has to team up with a gangster and a priest to take down Rupert Thorn. I like it because it’s a story about redemption. Batman is almost incidental to the story; it’s really about the gangster and the priest.

    • TragicGuineaPig

For Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker: You have to watch the UNCUT version. The UNCUT version has a couple of scenes that really help to bring out what’s at stake. Avoiding spoilers, but just take my word for it.

    • TragicGuineaPig

I do like Under the Red Hood better than Mask of the Phantasm. The reason: because (SPOILER) in MotP, there really isn’t a good confrontation between Bats and the Angel of Death. The climax actually ends up a battle with the Joker. But in UtRH, there is that confrontation between the Bruce and Jason. There was conflict between Bruce and Andrea, but not to the depths that you see with Jason.

I can’t help but notice that, what should have been about favorite DC Animated films ended up being favorite animated Batman films. Might I suggest a segment about other DC Animated films?
