If you’ve never seen Heavy Metal, you should, because you’ll find the first part of the first story very familiar. In a dystopian future New York, cynical cabbie Harry Canyon picks up a beautiful girl who is being pursued by baddies and takes her back to his apartment. Remind you of anything you just saw? If so, it’s probably because the Harry Canyon segment is based on a story in Heavy Metal magazine called The Incal by French artist Moebius, who sued The Fifth Element’s director Luc Besson for using The Incal as an inspiration (he lost).
Since you liked The Fifth Element so much, you might also enjoy one of Besson’s earlier movies, La Femme Nikita, since Leelu owes a lot to the title character of that film (Besson apparently has a thing for girls who kick ass). Also, it’s just an awesome movie. Be sure to watch it in French with subtitles, though. The English-dubbed version isn’t as good, though it’s still light-years better than Point of No Return, the totally unnecessary American shot-for-shot remake with Bridget Fonda.

  2. His name is John McClain.

You know who else eats chicken? LEEEEEEEEROOOOOOY JEEEEEEEEEENKIIIIIIIINNNNS! Do you ever feel a sudden urge to charge headlong into mortal danger and get your entire party killed?

  3. Yay! We’re back to movies that I’ve seen. How I saw this movie is a funny story. One of our teachers showed us this movie in middle school. BEST TEACHER EVER. Although, he forgot about the sex scene with Chris Tucker and he lost the remote. I think that was the first time I ever saw a sex scene. O.O However, I probably wouldn’t have seen it if it wasn’t for that teacher. Oh, and didn’t Taylor Swift already dress like Leeloo in the Bad Blood music video when she was on the table?

  4. I’m curious, has Tamara ever seen The Professional?

  5. Wow, one of my all-time favorite movies, I remember seeing it in a theater and being blown away.

This movie traveled sort of a weird path in the pop-culture conscienceless, where it was something a sleeper hit and cult classic, that became hated by many on the internet when millennial teens discovered it and didn’t know what to make of it, then finally came full circle and is beloved by people who can appreciate imagination and a little silliness in their action-sci-fi adventure.

Now, some notes for Tamara and anyone else new to this film!

    1) How could you not know Bruce’s character name when Tucker (Ruby Rhod) screams it out about 50 times during the big siege battle scene. C-C-Corbin Dallas!

    2) That was the first role for Milla Jovovitch who is mainly known as the lead character of the Resident Evil film franchise…I assume you haven’t seen those and you aren’t missing much.

    3) Die Hard, Twelve Monkeys, and The Fifth Element are what I consider the holy trinity of awesome Bruce Willis movies.

Anyway, glad you enjoyed the movie, it’s certainly a divisive film and some people just don’t like it or get, others (like me) treasure it.

Die Hard, The Fifth Element, and The Sixth Sense for me. Also, The Jackal, if you want to see him play a villain. And I have a soft spot for The Last Boy Scout because it’s the first movie my wife and I saw in a theater together. (Yes, I took her to see a Bruce Willis movie on our first date; how’s that for confidence?)

  6. So…. is it just me….or is Tamara trying a little TOO hard to look hot lately in her videos?

    Because its working.

    Just sayin’.

  7. I’m really enjoying these! I haven’t seen most of these movies either, only Jurassic Park and the Goonies.

  8. Your kitties are such photo bombers!
