I know this is the last good Hellraiser movie, but I find some aspects of the story really annoying. In the first movie the cenobites were supernatural sadomasochistic monks. Here they are victims of hell with amnesia whose every belief is a lie. Everything about the puzzle box was a mystery, from the second movie forward it become a gate to a hell that control the mind of it’s victims. Really boring compared to the confusing concept of pain and pleasure soo extreme that they are indistinguishable. When Pinhead said Larry was in his own hell I assumed he meant… Read more »

In the 2011 hell raiser comic series during the dark watch arc it is revealed that like in dante’s Inferno there are different levels of hell. Abadon rules the next level of hell and is trying to take over leviathan’s plane of hell. It is revealed Larry is in Abadon’s level of hell. Also the comic goes off of the first two films so Larry is still Kristy’s father. Also the comic reveals the leather the cenobites wear is the skin of leviathan and through it they giant their powers.

The third film in the franchise looked like it was direct to DVD was it? I also think that pinhead as his human self looks a lot like Leeman Kessler(if you don’t know who that is its asklovecraft he’s a new talent on the site I really think youll enjoy his works). Good review. But pinheads second in command sounds a lot different without the raspy. I also like you liked the clamiation scorpions that came out from chenards hands with knifes now that was definitely scary indeed. Can’t wait for part three!!!

This movie was okay, but what really bugs me was all the potential it had to take the series in an interesting direction with the world of the of the Labyrinth and the Leviathan. Admittedly I haven’t seen much more of the series, but it’s kind of hard to go from something as big as dark gods to just the cenobites again.

Am I the only one who sees lesbianism? Given the obvious sexual overtones – especially ‘fiddling with the box’/’fiddling with yourself’/’blossoming as a woman’… what does it say that Kirsty and Tiffany find each other through the box? That they unlock its secrets together? Maybe I’m just seeing lesbianism everywhere.

One other thing you might find interesting if you didn’t already know: The tentacle that latches on to Channard was supposed to be one of several that would have sprouted from Leviathan at the center of the labyrinth. But for one reason or another they couldn’t get the special effect that they wanted so, the idea didn’t make it into the movie. This also sort of explains why Channard was so powerful so as to be able to defeat the other Cenobytes, since it was Leviathan directly giving him power. Also, I think that Channard’s behavior (making the puns and… Read more »
