Replacing Mel Gibson with Taraji P. Henson is a brilliant idea! They should do that with all of his movies. Lethal Weapon 5 should start with Riggs dying off-screen and Henson showing up. Just have her say "Hey, everyone! I'm a non-racist who loves Jews! Now let's solve this murder!" and we're already off to an excellent start.

I genuinely mean that. Think about how much better his movies would be, if Taraji P. Henson were in those roles instead. She's also not a sexist, racist, anti-Semitic pig. It's a win-win situation.

I’m not defending Gibson’s remarks but what does that have to do with his roles though?

The Golden Globes' distinction between 'Drama' and 'Comedy' is notoriously lousy, with a lot of errors like this (by default, musicals are lumped in with comedy, which usually works fine until you get something like Les Miserables or Sweeney Todd categorized with comedies).

You make an anti-semite likeable and popular, you make his views likeable and popular.

Sure, because people literally turning into meat pies equals a laugh riot. And Get Out, hahaha, it's funny because the lead character finds out what happens to black people being sold.

Of course, as I typed that I realized that Sweeney actually is meant to be pretty funny (evidenced by the moment of them actually turning people into meat pies being dramatized via a 7-minute comic song), but given that the film cut almost all the comedy out and toned the whole thing down the point still stands.

It's supposed to be a comedy?

Halfway. It toes the line between comedy and horror pretty consistently, though the last 20 minutes or so are played completely straight. Think of it like Theatre of Blood or The Abominable Dr. Phibes in terms of the tone.

Examples of the more comedic moments in the play:

The recording of the 1982 touring production with Angela Lansbury and George Hearn is worth hunting down, as it's a pretty good indication of what the original show was like (and a damn good recording in its own right as well).

    It's a dark horror/comedy. But mostly, it's a horror movie.

Ya know what? If Disney won't release the trailer for their Josh Brolin summer Marvel blockbuster, I'll gladly take one from Fox.

    Can't wait for either, though.

It'll be a very odd translation given how theatrical the show is (and I worry it may come off as rather treacly on film), but if done well it could be very special.

So, does the rights to the first one still belong to TWC? I kinda want them to buy that one as well.

Also, this is quite a shock, but the only connection I could make between the two was that there was an Animated Paddington Bear series that aired on HBO Family years ago.

Considering The Weinstein Company is on the brink of bankruptcy, I imagine all of their films are going find a new home.

I think Warner Brothers needs to talk to Studio Canal in order to gain US rights to the first film. I just hope this deal doesn't screw over eOne, which has the distribution rights in Canada and has been marketing Paddington 2 quite intensely since the summer.

Maybe plenty of them will go to MGM now.

Or Lionsgate, which already has the home video rights.

Weinstein has a couple of other films still in need of new buyers, including the horror film Polaroid, the Thomas Edison movie The Current War, a remake of The Intouchables, a Robert De Niro comedy called War with Grandpa and a film about Mary Magdalene. All of these movies are pretty much finished and in the can. Unlike Paddington 2, which was merely an acquisition, the other movies were in-house Weinstein productions. So it's going to be very interesting what happens to those movies. Harvey Weinstein was even in the middle of re-cutting The Current War when the New York Times piece was published.

Goodness how I'd love to see a Rogue movie, if she is done some freaking justice.

Well, Dwayne Johnson flies a helicopter again, in a serious adaptation of an absolutely goofy game series...

Seriously I don't know what they're trying to go for in this.

If anything, it reminds me more of the Superman: The Animated Series episode "Monkey Fun" than it does Rampage.

Suddenly it makes sense why this wasn't released during the Halloween season but still I think it might get crushed.

I dunno it still annoys me Sony has cancelled Genndy Tartakovsky's other projects so far.

The head of Sony Animation revealed at a talk at the Annecy Animation Festival over the summer that it took a lot of coaxing to bring Tartakovsky back. So it would be neat if this was one of those "one for you, one for me" kind of deals.

I think Hotel Transylvania 3 will do alright. Audiences seem to dig these movies as the second one actually outgrossed the first film. I expect some drop in attendance as is common for most third entries in franchises, but not too harsh. It's also coming out enough time after Incredibles 2 for one not to affect the other. I dig the first two Hotel Ts as purely silly entertainments with wonderful squash and stretch animation, so I'm looking forward to this, although I think 3 is a good place to close the series.

At least Paramount's assets don't counteract what they already have like with Fox.
