I liked this movie, for the most part. Godzilla’s updated design is good, although I think his head looks a bit narrow and could have been flatter, imo.

The only thing I didn’t like is the ending. “Ooo.. shiny! Whoops I fell into a volcano!” just seems a bit of a lame ending for him.

That opening theme: I half expected some guy with nails all over his skull jump out and threaten to tear my soul apart.

“I thought he was just huge!” – At least he’s not “Big as a battleship! Like a battleship! Larger than a battleship! A battleship, I tell you!”

“Flock of Seagulls” – I know! Brad Jones did a review last week where he SHOULD have made at least one “I Ran” joke, and he failed miserably to do so! 80s Dan must have been sooo disappointed.

Dr. Pepper IS the drink of choice for time travelers, though!

Yeah this is a solid Godzilla flick, I like how it ties into the 1954 original. I freakin loved Shin Godzilla which came out last year, it felt much more in the spirit of these kinds of films as opposed to the 2014 American version, which I found pretty disappointing overall.

This version really ticks me off. It’s one of the many reasons why I don’t watch dubbed versions of Godzilla movies anymore. There was NO reason to have any American footage. It would have been just fine if it had been a straight dub. But no! New World Pictures had to take a classic franchise and turn into a Dr. Pepper commercial.

I’m going to stop ranting now.

In case of original King of the Monsters, foreign releases were uncommon in US back then and as such re-adaptation did have a sense bringing Godzilla overall to people awareness. But in case of Godzilla 85’e yes.. it was totally pointless and dated.

Is there a cut without the added american scenes?

You mean the original? Yes.. d’oh!

Yes, Xell. They recently released a DVD of the original Japanese “Return of Godzilla”. Unedited and subbed.

Hm, I would’ve preferred a decently dubbed version simply without the added scenes, but thanks anyway.

I just saw the movie and thought it was quite bad. I don’t hate it, though. I’m more in the middle. I mean, it did very little new with the character. At least it was better than “Son Of Godzilla”. Yes, I saw that too.
