  1. “Grunkle” is short for “great uncle”.

Love the new site BTW! Can’t wait for more vlogs!

  2. if they likes this they’d love over the garden wall.

  3. I agree with everything you said, including for “don’t like Roland Emmerich that much, but Stargate is my kind of dumb”.

Did you know: Alex Hirsch (the writer of the show) also voices Grunkle Stan, Soos, Old Man McGucket, Bill Cipher, and the Gnomes. Kristen Schaal, who voices Mabel, is also known from Flight of the Concords and was for a time on The Daily Show. She doesn’t really put on a different voice. Dipper and Mable are based on Alex and Ariel (Alex’s sister) Hirsch, Grunkle Stan is based on their great uncle (I think) and Soos on a friend of Alex. It is all supposed to be just one single summer. Alex said when he was that age summers seemed to be so endlessly long. He wanted to replicate that feeling.

Ariel Hirsch posted these pictures on her tumblr that show the “real life” Stan, Dipper and Mabel:

And here is the “real life” Soos:

And I have no problem with you making these vlogs this long.

  4. PS: Can’t wait for you reviewing The Timetraveler’s Pig, especially because you watched the first season twice and might notice some stuff. 😉

  5. Ah and will you also review the shorts that where released between the two seasons? Maybe one review for all the shorts.

  6. (This is a repost of my comment from TGWTG, for those watching/reading ~IN THE FUTURE~!)

My name is Tora, by the way 😉 I’m so happy you’re finally Vlogging this show, Doug! I’ve been literally waiting for months!! Since you can’t tell through the interwebs, I am indeed the one who gave you that Gravity Falls DVD! 😀 Which I gave you at MomoCon in Atlanta, NOT ConnectiCon! >:P

Okay but for real, wouldn’t believe how much I freaked out when you showed the DVD and mentioned that I gave it you! I’ve already been linking this video all my friends going “LOOK, LOOK! DOUG WALKER IS TALKING ABOUT ME!!” I’ve been watching your videos, been a fan and admired you for years, now I can’t believe I’ve actually gotten you into my favorite cartoon :’) It’s the best feeling in the world!

Haha, I have the feeling you and Rob may change your mind about Adventure Time being better than Gravity Falls (as much as I like Adventure Time too!) by the time you get caught up with season 2. I don’t know how much of it the two of you have watched already (if any) but I’ll just tell you right now it blows season 1 out of the water!

Anyway, can’t wait for the rest of the vlogs, especially the one for episode 19, because it introduces the character that I was cosplaying when we met at that convention! My birthday is actually in December so this is the best birthday present ever!!

  7. To be honest I prefer Gravity Falls to Adventure Time. I’m not sure why but I’ve always enjoyed a good mystery. I feel like the way Gravity falls episodes are written are smart. They’re basically going about it the same way that Avatar the last Airbender did. The first few episodes are easing you into the basic idea and then they hit you with actual storyline.

  8. Am I the only one who gets a Twin Peaks vibe off this show? But thanks for bringing this to light guys, i’d never heard of it before the vlogs.

  9. I really like the show
I like Independents day and Star Gate movies
Dipper is very mature that is why i think he sounds so old cos he gets way to serious with this mastery

  10. Its about time you started doing this show, im watching all of these now!

  11. “Disney: We have blinks!”

They’ve even developed a technique behind it. I remember getting a book, I think it was “The Illusion of Life”, that they published back in the ’70s or something, and one of the things they mentioned was the process of figuring out how to make blinks look as natural as possible. What they settled on was one frame of the eyes almost closed, one of them closed, then one of them almost open. Anything else looked subtly unnatural. I don’t know if this carried over into their TV shows, especially the newer ones that Disney has basically nothing to do with other than airing it on their network, but that’s always stuck with me as an example of how much animators have to take into consideration if they want their characters to feel lifelike.

  12. Holy crap, Rob with the pitch perfect prediction.

  13. “Limited yourself to 60 episodes”. Summer = three months, two of which have 31 days. That’s 30 + 31 + 31 = 92 episodes.

    Math.

  14. Something I found amusing. The Gnome said you will have to marry all 1000 of us. So there are exactly 1000 of them, and they are all male with one queen (before something happened to her). IIRC, that is exact gender ratio in the Smurfs!

    Coincidence? I think not!!

  15. Mikołaj Lelito

I think they choose voice of Dipper to sound older to contrast with mabel. Mabel supposed to be childish and Dipper supposed to be more adult and mature.
