I’ve not seen the movie yet myself but have some thoughts on the plot based on various other discussions on it.
1) There’s a running theme that everything the people do produces the opposite of the intended result.
2) The organism takes on various forms in different environmental conditions. In a test atmosphere it grew similar to a plant or a fungus. In the limited or absent atmosphere of the station it was a predatory creature. And finally… SPOILER!
3) This a theory I have about the ending. It’s final form was described as web like but I suspect it was a return to the plant/fungal form, specifically mycelium. Implying that after all their effort to keep the organism away from Earth it had been here all along, and could be the planets largest interconnected biomass.
4) The Outer limits, Specimen: Unknown
