MLP Vlogs: Griffin The Brush-Off – Dena

The first and last episode featuring Gilda the Griffon (until Season 5 anyway).

About Cyborcat

Dena takes a positive and detailed look at retro games, horror games, horror movies, and whatever else she feels like. Also Silent Hill. And cats.

Haven’t seen the new griffin episode from season 5 (well guess I’ll have to watch that one see yeah!!) Good review.

The short version is; Gilda is a jerk because pretty much the whole species (or at least everyone from their capital) has turned into money-grubbing selfish jerks who don’t trust anyone and have no friends supposedly just because they lost an ancient artifact that used to inspire them. And Gilda is actually pretty much the nicest griffon in that town. (We at least see other minor gryphon characters throughout the seasons who are way nicer, though.)

It isn’t as much problem with the race as more like whole culture. Griffins live in mountains and are simply pore as hell from one side, and pride and prejudiced from another. This is simply typical behavior of countries like North Korea, parochial Arabic countries or Russia outside Moscow.

Weirdest thing for me about this episode is finding out Gilda Share s her voice with the Dub Revy from Black Lagoon.

Did lead to a sweary mashup video that was entertaining though

Rarity’s voice actress does Roberta’s voice on that series as well.

One thing I kinda miss about the first season is that back then not all of the Mane 6 got along perfectly. It made them feel a bit more like real individuals. It’s not that I enjoy arguing, of course, I just get kind of tired of seeing them all in perfect harmony ALL the time. Real friendships ALWAYS go through rocky parts even long after people (or ponies) become close to one another.

And sometimes they have good periods for years.
The next argument comes soon, I promise. xD

It took them until season 5 to come up with an explanation for why Gilda acted like this…namely that the entirety of Griffin society had been facing years of stagnation and decline since they lost a national treasure and with it their pride. Leaving behind a bunch of angry, greedy, people who could barely stand to look at each other and whose greatest ambition is leaving.

This isn’t about treasure what we find out just to be piece of junk, but that simply was just excuse to justify acting as they act. And definitely we can’t say that they lost pride, as they behavior is exact example of so called “beggar pride”. That is they take pride from they sadness and miserable position, and justify it with fake code of honor or excuse to blame it instead own lack of action and motivation. When legendary king who probably simply try do something in town lost his treasure, it was simply used to mark him as incompetent… Read more »
