Power Rangers and CHIPS – Midnight Screenings

Special Guest Lewis Lovhaug joins Brad to talk about the movie adaptations of Power Rangers and CHIPS!

About thecinemasnob

Brad Jones portrays The Cinema Snob, a pretentious film snob who is stuck with reviewing Z-Grade exploitation flicks of the past. I'm a big guy. For you.

  1. Thanks, I will avoid Chips like the plague. Not that I would’ve seen it otherwise, can’t say I’m a big fan of “gross out” comedies.

And no real interest in Power Rangers either. I was in the right age group when the show was at the height of its popularity, but even back then I found it kind of silly. That’s not to say I don’t still have fondness for any number of silly things from my formative years, but PR just isn’t one of them.

I did have a great time watching Skull Island however. It was just a really fun movie, I would go as far as to say it was better than the Jackson version. If anything it got to the point and didn’t feel overlong.

  2. To Brad/Linkara (but more for Brad): do persons in the theater/s recognize you from your show/s? Like, has anyone ever been like “Duuuude! Can I get your autograph!?”, etc?

To Brad: I watch most of these Midnight Screenings, but not all (so if you’ve ever answered the above before, I missed it).

  3. I have a lot to say about this movie but I’ll try to keep it short: I’ve been watching Power Rangers on-and-off since about 2000. The movie was ok. They had too much drama though for my taste. After the first hour, I was saying “Where’s the action?!”. The drama got too real (sexting, etc.). O.O Banks as Rita was amazing. So fun. She truly was the best part. It became a D for the action scenes they DID have. Then, hearing the theme made it a C. Rita made it a C+. By the end, I was glad that it was slightly above average. Lastly, I believe that Krispy Kreme was their main sponsor. On the red carpet, I think Krispy Kreme was in the back. ?
I think I’ve only seen CHIPS once or twice and I don’t like raunchy movies usually so CHIPS will be a skip. Even what you were saying made my brow furrow. Although, I have never heard of Going in Style until this week.

  4. “Decent action adaptation of cheesy TV show.” You mean kind of like what they did with The A-Team?
