Projector: Paddington / Get Santa

Film Brain looks at two new family movies this episode (that both have Jim Broadbent!): Paddington Bear comes to the big screen, and Santa is the subject of a prison break in ‘Get Santa’.

About Film Brain

"Bad Movie Beatdown" takes a look at the very worst that Hollywood has to offer with commentary and analysis. "Projector" is reviews of current UK releases that have yet to open in the US. There may also be some commentaries and other material.

  1. Love the new titles Mathew. I’m glad you looked at Paddington as after seeing the trailer I was going to avoid it like the plague, but I might just give it a look now.

Well the thing I dident like about this review is that you said that you wanted that bear to be real, I found it to be to energetic.

Lets just stick with owning cats.

  3. I am honestly shocked that Paddington could be worth watching.

    • Well the creator Michael Bond even made a cameo in the movie. So that should hint you that he was making sure the film will be as faithful to his original books. Unlike other Live-Action kid’s films where the creator has long been dead.

  4. I can breathe a sigh of relief that hearing from you Matt that both of these films are pretty good. Great new opening, you got a top-notch animator working with you.

    • I’m flattered that you consider me to be a top-notch animator. Maybe I’m too self-deprecating for my own good, but I always end up ragging on my own work. A lot =P

I’m also rather relieved that Paddington turned out to be a good film. I was -not- optimistic after seeing the trailers.

    I’m disappointed that Paddington isn’t a mess.
I want to see Angry Jake flip out.

  6. I love the new opening!

  7. So glad to see you reviewed Paddington! I remember the books fondly and was afraid they’d messed the whole thing up, but I figured as a Brit you’d be familiar with the books and be able to say whether or not it would be worth seeing. And it sounds like it is, so I will definitely check it out! Thanks!

And thanks for pairing it with Get Santa. I had vaguely heard of it but figured it was another one in the vein of Bad Santa (which I did *not* enjoy) and was going to give it a miss, but now I think I’ll check that one out with the kids too.

Love the new title! And thanks for the reviews!
