Projector: Spy / Big Game

A double feature of action comedies are reviewed by Film Brain, including Melissa McCarthy becoming a secret agent, and Samuel L. Jackson’s President of the United States being rescued… by a 13-year-old Finnish boy!

About Film Brain

"Bad Movie Beatdown" takes a look at the very worst that Hollywood has to offer with commentary and analysis. "Projector" is reviews of current UK releases that have yet to open in the US. There may also be some commentaries and other material.

  1. I actually didn’t expect Spy to be that good, but I’ve been hearing a lot of good things about it. Could it be that theatrical spoofs are making a comeback?

  2. film brain i agreed with you about spoof. One reason i never like any of the Not another “fill in the blank” is that they just toss a lot of small bit into the screen and are sort of telling the audience to laugh. half the joke don’t seem to tell any story nor do they support each other. But if we look at classic original airplane, police academy and naked gun. The world seem very much like our own except weird stuff seem to happen near our hero. Nothing to far fetch and it sort of builds up as it the movies goes alone.

  3. Nice to see an Obama-style president who ISN’T depicted as a wonderful badass, because… let’s face it, presidents are politicians. They’re sad little lying men with no spines.

Spy actually sounds good. I might go see it!

  4. TheEmeraldDragon

What happened to Bad Movie Beatdown? I loved that.

  5. What happened to your review of a Royal Night Out?

Even if Big Game slows down a bit, I really do want to see it.

  6. I really want to see Big Game, as it seems the acknowledge the Sami something that I have not seen in film so far. The fact that you didn’t mention it makes me worry that they don’t mention it at all but I suppose it works anyway… As a Scandinavian I am ashamed that hardly any big media tends to acnowledge the Sami and feature them in prevolent roles. Like the Native Americans the Sami were almost exterminated when Christian Europe spread north and they have suffered similar opression. I hope Big Game shows them in a good light and it is but the first in a coming trend.

  7. Hey Mathew when are you going to do some more Bad Movie Beatdowns?
I miss those reviews, they’re fun!

  8. Both movies look kind of fun in their own way. I’ll have to give them a look.

I was worried about Spy at first. I was another one who was thinking it was going to be another movie featuring Melissa McCarthy where the premise was “Ha! It’s funny because she’s a fat person doing something!” Glad to hear that’s not the main joke of the whole thing.
