Projector: The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel / It Follows

Film Brain travels to India to celebrate the grand opening of an unnecessary sequel, while also getting disturbed by The Guest’s Maika Monroe being pursued by a sexually-transmitted curse.

About Film Brain

"Bad Movie Beatdown" takes a look at the very worst that Hollywood has to offer with commentary and analysis. "Projector" is reviews of current UK releases that have yet to open in the US. There may also be some commentaries and other material.

  1. It Follows sounds really interesting but I don’t think I can get past the tired and frankly harmful trope of “sex is evil”/”sexually active women get punished”. The reference you made to the 80’s slasher film cliche of “promiscuous = dead” is something I’ve always found asinine and distasteful.

  2. I haven’t actually seen the review yet, I just wanted to state that ‘It follows’ is awesome and nothing you say can change my mind.

  3. I enjoy projector and all but when are we going to get another BMB?

  4. Why has he been been doing projector two movies at a time lately? I understand if you are comparing two movies with similar or contrasting themes, but in this case they had nothing to do with each other. And I can’t imagine it saves much time since it is basically two complete independent reviews in one video.

This isn’t a critique I’m just curious. Film Brain is one of my favorite producers on the site but with the two movie format I find myself putting watching the video off till later and often never watching it. Especially when I only really care about one of the movies.

Anyway It Follows sounds quite good!

    • I refreshed the format in October of last year to prevent it from getting stale and try to get people interested in it again. The idea of the show is to draw attention to titles that maybe people wouldn’t necessarily click on by themselves, and I figured the double format would make it feel like a review show like Siskel & Ebert and The Film Programme. Most of the time the pairs (which are usually decided by release date) usually share some kind of link, no matter how unlikely, but sometimes you just isn’t, but that diversity was part of the idea when I freshened up the format.

  5. I want to see It Follows NOW!!!
O,O Oh my god, my country sucks. It NEVER shows horror movies unless it’s some generic shit like Paranormal Activity T_T

  6. Hi, I really enjoy your reviews and insights. Just wanted to point out that the girl in this movie, Jay, was not a virgin at the beginning of the film. She says later in the movie that she slept with the neighbor boy in high school. My opinion is that the movie simply added the sex angle to sell the product, just as old 80s movies did, and not to make any point about sexuality. I think the aspect of the film that truly intrigued the director was the following aspect in itself. I’ve heard that he had reoccurring dreams about being followed. That part of the movie was so scary to me.
