  1. I know I commented about Rogue One in a previous podcast comment but I think that Donnie Yen’s character also had personality (or at least more personality than the main characters). To be honest, I didn’t catch most of the references since I actually haven’t seen the original trilogy in a while now. For the Darth Vader scene, in my mind, he was just so angry that he wanted to personally get the plans himself. I also saw the Magnificent Seven and I probably especially enjoyed it since I rarely see Westerns. Plus, I never saw the previous movies so I didn’t see the ending coming at all.

    • Donnie Yen’s character definitely had personality, and each character had at least one or two traits, but we never got to really, really know these people. It can be argued that for this movie, it doesn’t matter, but it was still a bit distracting to me.

As for Darth Vader being angry, it didn’t come off that way to me. He said in the first movie that “the ability to destroy a planet is insignificant compared to the power of the Force.” I just took this as a case of Vader being badass because the fans would like it. I may be wrong, though.

I haven’t seen many Westerns, myself. I should look into more. I think I’ve only really seen High Plains Drifter.
