I remember renting this years ago at Video 99, the local Blockbuster competitor. Yeah, it’s hilariously bad. For a martial arts film it’s oddly more concerned with portraying the most extreme gore possible, rather than any kind of actual martial arts.

I love this movie, best action comedy ever made.

It is pretty faithfull to the source material, yet the manga was actually serious and dramatic.
Maybe not everything translates to film, or maybe it was just because of the cheesy effecs.
