Tamara checks out another Christmas classic, Scrooged. Does this 80s Bill Murray film still hold up?

  1. I remember catching this film on TV when I was young, and I enjoyed it, as I always like to see a comedy version of a Christmas Carol.

But hey its not everyone’s cup of tea Tamara, so no worries.

  2. I didn’t mind Tamara not liking this movie. I’ve always found it just alright myself. Though oddly enough when I first saw it I though Bill Murray was still playing Peter Veckman up until the last act. Oh the simpler conclusions of children.

What I did mind was being on the edge of my seat waiting for her to say what version of A Christmas Carol she did like or at least which version she first remembers! I would still love to know.

  3. I do get what she means about the lack of redeeming qualities or convincing character growth. In must versions of the Scrooge story, you at least see him lighting up at happy memories or witnessing the experiences of others. While it’s been a while since I’ve seen the Scrooged so maybe I’m forgetting something, but I never felt Frank becoming any wiser or more caring until the final. Just more frightened and irritable. Even his hallelujah speech just seemed a little too forced, even if the live TV set up was clever.

  4. I’ve never even heard of this movie before.

  5. I love Scrooged. Bill Murray is such a prick in this movie, and Bobcat Goldthwait is hilarious. Really dig the design of the grim reaper in this too, with the tv for a head.

  6. Try What About Bob? It is the only one I can think of where he is sweet all the way.
