Shark Jumping: Once Upon a Timing Podcast – S5E1

The first episode of Shark Jumping’s new weekly OUAT podcast is out! Beth and the “Queen of Podcasting” Abbey look at the debut episode of season five. We’ve got Dark Swan, Zelena’s crazy eyes and a baby … for some reason.

About SharkJumping

Hosts Tim & Beth break down the best, worst and strangest TV shows to find out when they jumped the shark.

  1. I think they had to bring the baby, because otherwise, I would be screaming “WHO IS WATCHING THE BABY?!?” He’s really not safe no matter where he goes, let’s be real.
I think the Frozen arc HAD to happen, because if it came later, people would have been even more annoyed about it, and all the Frozen actors were great, Elizabeth Mitchell especially, but I think that also derives a lot from the idea of the half seasons, which started in s3, when they split it into Peter Pan and Zelena, then the Frozen arc, then the Queen’s of Darkness. S2 might have been a hot mess, but while Cora was around, and the villain, she was awesome. What we really need is a solid threat who can last a whole season, à la Buffy. I would REALLY like it if that could be Emma, but knowing this show, they’ll miss a lot of potential for playing to the tropes they’re comfortable with.
Though I still don’t get why NO ONE thought to try True Love’s Kiss. Her parents, son, and boyfriend all show up, not one of them thinks ‘maybe we should try that.’ Hell, Belle KNOWS it can work, she’s known since s1! They can’t just forget something like that!

    • ABC, the network itself, tells the shows “you’re taking a hiatus for the winter so we can air other shows.” The creators did the best the could with that and came up with the two story arcs per season format. I actually kind of like it. But hey, to each his own, agree to disagree, and all that.

  2. I watched a few episodes of this series a few seasons ago, but I haven’t seen it in a while, other than a couple episodes my mother was watching while I was down home. I don’t know what’s going on currently in the show, but I enjoyed listening to the podcast nonetheless.

  3. I LOVE THE SHOW!!!! I’ve been a proud Oncer since season 1, episode 1. And after a season of focusing on guest and recurring characters, I’m glad to get the show back to the main characters (don’t get me wrong, I LOVED season 4– especially Ingrid and Cruella– but it just didn’t focus on the main characters and that was an issue with me).
