WHY. Why in gods name would they shut it down?

Like he said executives, it’s the same crap about Star Wars: The Old Republic, it makes enough cash to be kept open but not enough for EA to put serious work into it.

Actually, he said he doesn’t know and he doesn’t care… which sort of made me regret watching. Maybe someone who does care can do a little research and make a video about what happened and how it might be avoided in the future.

Only the second MMO I’ve ever heard of being actively shut down rather than withering away into obscurity.

Not nearly as emotionally crushing as City of Heroes. That was seven different flavors of bullshit. :<

Both SoE and NCSoft have pulled this kind of thing several times actually.

Um…the factions DID suffer from a lack of balance. Do I need to bring up Diabla…or Macro…or Sparkscape…or, God forbid, Outsider?

Also, there was a massive amount of “restructuring” that went on before the announcement, resulting in numerous lay-offs, likely due to the lack of profit the game was yielding. This was also reflected in the steady decline of mods on the forums, as one after another vanished, until now only one remains. The blame lies in Jagex’s management. This isn’t the first time the company’s screwed over a game to the point that they gave up on it and shut it down.

My complete inexpert opinion. I think Hasbro wanted the game out in 14 to build on all marketing hype with the movie, the 30th anniversary and such. Hasbro learned what many companies have that there’s your timetable and then there’s the game’s timetable.

It also looks like it got too complicated. I’d have stuck with three classes (Tank, Damage and Support) and three maps. I’d also drop the customize save for the primary and secondary palette swaps.

They DID drop the customization, way back in 2012.
