About SF Debris

“Cisco is here because they need him to punch the ore out of the ground.” I laughed!

  2. Thumbs up for the unexpected MTG reference (Jon Finkel quote).

  3. Snorgatch Pandalume

I have to ask, what is with the POW:MIA emblem after the opening theme? Does anyone seriously believe there are still POWs in Vietnam? Did the barrage of action movies in the 80s’ where we go back there to re-fight the war and win it this time not adequately slake American’s thirst for revenge against that poor country?

    • TragicGuineaPig

You might want to keep in mind, for all those POW-MIA soldiers, airmen, marines, etc., there are friends and family who still have no idea what happened to them. It’s highly doubtful that, after all these years, that any of them are still alive or that we’ll learn anything – especially if there are war crimes involved – but those friends and family members still have a right to know, and still deserve our compassion. And if nothing else, it shows that we still honor those who have been lost, who made their sacrifices. I take it that’s why people still use the POW-MIA emblem. It’s a sign of respect, not a call to war.

      • Snorgatch Pandalume

While I sympathize with those who lost loved ones in Vietnam whose remains were never found, this issue has been exploited in the past by those who knew full well that none of those men were still alive but wished to punish Vietnam for beating us by maintaining sanctions to strangle its economy and impoverish its people, while simultaneously holding out false hopes to the friends and families of MIAs. Such petty, cruel, vindictive behavior is unworthy of a great nation.

        • You do realize that POW-MIA covers *all* American wars, not just Vietnam, right? And that there are MIA soldiers from every war we’ve ever fought?

Yes, some people have exploited this for evil reasons, but virtually every charitable organization has been exploited at some point. Yet we don’t complain about Doug’s charity shoutouts–so let’s not give anyone shit for showing the logo of a cause important to them, on a review that came out just after Memorial Day, of an episode that’s highly relevant to that cause.

          • Snorgatch Pandalume

I actually hadn’t even connected it to Memorial Day. Stupid of me. Point taken.

  4. You mention the Klingon saying “The body is a shell, treat it as such”.
It is because of this philosophy that you’ll often find mine lying on a beach somewhere.
