Great opening.

Of course I watched this. It’s the only one of its kind I’ve seen. Porygon’s evolutions are the only pokemon to not be in the anime. It’s funny how “South Park” made fun of this. They did episodes with Muhammad and got death threats because of it. If Porygon’s evolutions were featured in an episode, would they get death threats from people?

Ok, I know this was meant to be a serious episode, but playing the Sini-Star voice over the hologram completely cracked me up!

The embargo on this episode is so all-encompassing that it isn’t even included in film books, collections of episode stills in manga format.

You are aware that people were hospitalized because of it? Technically they could give altered versions but they don’t want risk anyone watching it by mistake.

I wonder if there was any Tron inspiration in this episode. I’ve never heard of the controversy before. O.O Maybe it’s because I don’t watch the Simpsons and I don’t watch South Park or something?

I don’t watch either nor have I touched the Pokemon anime with a 39 and 1/2 foot pole since my childhood, yet I somehow knew about it, which is weird. When Suede made the strobe Effect joke at the start of this vid, I knew immediately what he was referencing, but I don’t know how I knew.

That “Misty getting digitized” scene reminded me of Tron, though I’m not sure if it was an intentional reference.

So… Why did the scientist not just use the anti-virus? I don’t see a downside here.

He had no idea who Jessie and James were. If he deleted them and they turned out to be important people, an investigation would’ve been held which could’ve potentially led to his work being discovered.

When I watched this episode on my computer, the strobing didn’t look very harmful. I think this was a case of “you had to be there”. Living room televisions are brighter and have stronger colours than computer monitors, not to mention the original broadcast would’ve been uncompressed full quality.

Another factor is the PAL format.

Japan uses a variant of NTSC:

Too bad that after this they never had Porygon and it’s evolutions ever again show up. There would had been several safe ways to use those in series.

I wounder why people wounder about how Pokeball work if games already explained that? It also would explain features like Escape Rope and emergency evacuations from games not to mention lack of transport. Though I wish they would point out it more clearly in future releases.

Still lack of proper explanation in the anime was huge letdown.

Maybe this video should have a seizure warning too.
