About Linkara

Atop the Fourth Wall is a show about bad comic books. Linkara finds the surreal and the stupid and breaks them down page by page. You'll know why they're idiotic and how they can be improved.

  1. I still need to get my hands to these old TMNT comic books and read them myself considering this franchise was big part of my childhood.

  2. I’m surprised you didn’t reference BvS with the bleeding bit.

Also, Season 3 or 4 of the 2012 TMNT series technically is already a TMNT Star Trek.

  3. Been waiting a long time for this one! As have many others it seems.

WOW. That was my reaction when we got to the blind guy crossing the street. I know there was a Daredevil influence, but I never imagined they literally gave the Turtles a part of his origin story! Though somehow I doubt that staid canon for long when they weren’t Marvel property. Of course they could have had a crossover somewhere do the line. Now I’ll have to look into that.

Great work as usual. Especially the bit with Ninja Style Dancer.

    • I don’t know if it’s true or not, but the story I heard was that Eastman and Laird initially tried to sell the idea Marvel hence the tie in to Daredevil’s origin. When Marvel refused they published independently and the rest, as they say, is history.

  4. A bit of a mistake in the credits: Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird haven’t actually owned TMNT in years. Nickelodeon not only produces the show and movies, but they purchased the whole franchise in 2009.

One thing which I reckon is a bit dated about this issue aside from the story being cliched is the premise of the series being a parody has been lost on account of actually becoming what it set out to parody. But still, parody or not, it is a pretty decent gritty comic.

  5. 1:33- And there are people who STILL take it too seriously. *coughnostalgiacritic*

I also fondly remember watching Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation on Fox Kids, and its crossover with Power Rangers In Space.

I still see the cover of this comic as classic with the Frank Miller style art.

    8:26- “Give me a break.”

9:49- And how do they get by with all that toxic waste flooding the sewers every night at midnight? Am I right, Friday the 13th Part VIII?

13:21- Imagine if the origin of the turtles took place during the opening credits sequence to Superman III.

Has anyone read that Batman/TMNT crossover comic? I’m asking, because if it’s any good, I’ll buy the trade collection.

The Cinema Snob must be so happy to see that you are using clips of movies he has reviewed.

No wonder this one issue of a independent comic became such a big hit back in the day.

20:43- “Uh-oh, we’re in trouble. Something’s come along, and it’s burst out bubble. Yeah, yeah.”

  6. I want to see crossover with the turtles and Daredevil.

  7. Oh God, the third Trouble comic is the next one?

  8. I’m both a Power Rangers Fan and a Ninja Turtles Fan. God I loved the 90’s!

  9. This was really cool. Also, if you didn’t include Vanilla Ice’s Ninja rap, I would have definitely complained. Lastly, I didn’t realize that April O’Neil wasn’t in the original. O.O

  10. “we are not dogs without honor”
Linkara “That’s racist to dogs, show some damn honor”

Wait now you’re racist to beavers and their dam! When will it end?!

  11. Now I wanna look up that “Skateman Live” review he did.

  12. Pretty crazy a random doodle of a turtle with nunchucks became a multi million dollar franchise.

  13. “Quick everyone start stabbing yourselfs!” Lol

  14. A Ninja named Yoshi: was he by chance a dinosaur who eats cookies?

  15. Hey, you didn’t show your links at the end! Seriously though, thanks for reviewing such a beloved franchise. 1984 is pretty recent. I totally knew that about Daredevil. It was on Cracked. I like researching fictional universes crossing over.
