Was this year really that bad? …Yes. Yes it was. But there were some good songs though!

  1. Meh, personally I don’t like the songs on you list, but then in my opinion good music pretty much died out with the 20th century.

That’s why for me there’s only been one memorable song in 2016: Shakira’s “Try everything” from Zootopia.

    • I did not mind that song, but it was the wrong song to end that movie on.

Though, I imagine “Man in the Mirror” would have been too pricey to license.

    • I hate “try everything” from the bottom of my soul. Call me old fashioned but pop songs don’t belong in animated movies. Especially those that are good. Because more often than not, their act gets old and it loses the impact on later generations.

  2. I actually heard half of these.
Mostly turned to other channels for the others, or didn’t listen to the channels that played them at all.
Pop… not my thing. Never was.

  3. THE CAKE IS A LIE!

Yeah, your number 1 is definitely not the same as mine. Personally, I think Closer has the most fucking lazy lyrics of this year. It sounds like some sixth grader was trying to write a song with his friends and just started pulling rhymes out of his ass (“‘pull the sheets right off the corner’….rhymes with…. ‘roomate from Boulder’. That makes perfect sense! Put it in!”). But yeah, it’s your opinion, not mine, so cool. I honestly loved Cheap Thrills, Can’t Stop the Feeling, and Cake By The Ocean the most out of the songs on your best list (I also love Lost Boy by Ruth B. with a passion. Sue me.). Then again, I’m not the biggest fan of pop music, so I guess for me, the pop of 2016 was kinda meh.

  5. I’m just glad you didn’t make the song you played at the start your #1. I can’t stand Ride.

  6. Well not a lot to make a list out of anyway… Honestly it hasn’t just been 2016 (there have been objectively worse years… Looking at you 1350 <_<) it's just been a slog of junk the last few years it seems. On the plus side it's made me look around more and I found weird and fun things like Electro Swing and revisited some soundtracks.
But nah, not even worth making a list. Only one I liked (personal opinion of course) was the number 10.

  7. Hey! I really thought you forgot about this list. It was hard for me to find my own personal best and I’ll also agree that you the 2016 ended well. Also, I liked Coldplay’s performance as well. Although, I liked Beyonce until she had Blue Ivy. Ever since then her albums are no fun anymore and she’s more vulgar than she has ever been. I had no idea that Cake by the Ocean had a dirty version. I was SO surprised by Starboy. I HATE that song which is surprising since I LOVE Daft Punk. Mine were ONE Perfect Illusion by Lady Gaga, TWO Just Like Fire by P!nk, THREE, Diamond Heart by Lady Gaga, FOUR Can’t Stop the Feeling by Justin Timberlake, FIVE Hey Girl by Lady Gaga ft. Florence Welch, SIX Candyman by Zedd & Aloe Blacc, SEVEN Cheap Thrills by Sia ft. Sean Paul, EIGHT Million Reasons by Lady Gaga, NINE, This is What You Came for Calvin Harris ft. Rihanna and TEN Adventure of a Lifetime by Coldplay.

  8. What I want to know is why I got mostly down votes for my comment on the Worst list?

    10. I find the CG apes in the music video interesting. Coldplay is also more sophisticated compared to Maroon 5.
    9. Oh Beyonce, I hope that Jay-Z isn’t betraying you…
    8. I don’t think this is the first song where both sides of a broken couple explain their reasons. Personally, I think it sounds better than that Gotye song.
    7. I heard this a few times, and your thoughts on it is apt.
    6. While this sounds MUCH better than Hello, if either song was a movie, uhh… Although, I felt old when I was 9 because my back kept hurting.
    5. What was this…?
    4. Someone mentioned you on a radio show? I demand a link or something!
    3. I wish Ariana luck in her career. She should be remembered for something positive other than Cat Valentine.
    2. Bruno Mars will always be gold magic to my ears.
    1. Bleh.
H: I actually like that Justin Timberlake song.

  9. Haha – had not seen the monkeys of Coldplay.

Also, at least Daft Punk was in there some-wheres.

44% of the time, I don’t see mu-videos on these. Actually, some I miss totally…feel older again. Think of monkeys of Coldplay! (Aaaaah.)

  10. Five songs in, and not a single good one yet. At best just 2015 left overs that looks better in hindsight compared to the rest of the 2016 crap.

  11. A very impressive Top 10 list! I actually enjoy a lot of the songs put up here.

Although I’m surprised that not a single twentyonepilots song (namely Stressed Out) was on the list, I 100% understand why you wouldn’t include such a song in it. 2016 was just such a disgustingly depressing year that the sillier, upbeat songs were ultimately what one would prefer, and I can totally see that sort of mindset in this list.

    Very well done, Todd.

  12. This is the first year where I haven’t heard anything new or anything I’ve liked on your Top Ten. I usually pick up a few songs I hadn’t heard before, or finally find out who does a song I do like. I think working retail where I hear all of these songs (both horrible and okay) nonstop every single day has made me hate all of them.

    …Alright, I like “Can’t Stop the Feeling”.

  13. It must have been a very bad year indeed, since most of these songs in my opinion are horrible. Maybe 1 or 2 are alright.

  14. I usually don’t mind your choices, even if I disagree with them, cause it’s your channel and your reviews and you usually justify your opinions in an eloquent no bullshit way, but DAMN you got me this time. What a huge WTF, Closer is an awful song with absolutely no redeeming qualities, and this is coming from a person who can even listen to Shawn Mendes without cringing.
