So question for anyone who’s an early vessel member for Doug:, is the new review clipless or not?!

    • Screw frozen it’s overrated.it deserves to die and burn in hell.Screw Elsa should not be a lesbian that’s stupid.disney won’t allow it.that would make parents not want or show the children the movie.second she does not need to be.the only reason people want her to be a lesbian is because of the annoying fans pushing it.ita not that I don’t like lesbians.i have no problem with them.the problem is people pushing this crap in movies when’s it’s unneeded.

      • I honestly don’t care either way if Elsa gets a girlfriend or not. Personally I’d rather she stay single, because there’s nothing wrong with that and almost every other Disney Princess movie says that the ultimate key to a happy life means having to get married, so why not change it up a bit? But I digress. What I want to know is at what point in the movie does Elsa even have time or the opportunity to find a suitor? There was literally no room in the plot of the story for her to have one. Her sexuality is open to interpretation so I have no issues with people choosing to have a head canon that says she’s a lesbian or not but I don’t see why her not having a love interest is supposed to automatically mean that she MUST be gay.

Realistically, I don’t think Disney is ready to go that route just yet. They do support the LGBT community but they are also a business, and know that a lot of their profits come from ultra conservatives who would be outraged and they would lose a good chunk of their target audience because their parents would boycott them. It would hurt their image and Disney is super strict about preserving the brand’s image and reputation. If they’re not ready to have two female background characters kiss in one of their animated shows, then they’re definitely not ready to have one of their biggest and most popular characters be an outright lesbian.

        • Red Priest Rezo

Yep. That’s my problem with that theory. There is NO reason for it outside of “Well there is no proof she is not lesbian therefore she is”. Oh, and “Let it go” being interpreted as representing coming out of the closet witch it very well can be for people in the real world, but in-story means a very particular thing about magic.

      • Ah ha ha. Ha ha. HA.

It’s one thing to call something overrated, or even hate it. It’s quite another to hate FROZEN of all things to such an extreme. A Sandler or Bay movie, certainly, but this? It’s not even Home on the Range or a direct-to-video sequel, for Mickey’s sake!

Also: “he only reason people want her to be a lesbian is because of the annoying fans pushing it.” PRETTY sure the number of people that jump on a bandwagon like that is largely negligible. Either way, that’s not the issue: the issue is that there’s virtually no queer representation across all media ever made, there’s barely any now, and people are desperately craving ANYTHING. EYE’m not queer and EYE crave it. And since we can only get a handful of new IPs every year now, we have to work more into existing franchises.

“ita not that I don’t like lesbians.”
Yes, and we can see that by…you arguing against anything lesbian being portrayed in a kids’ film. Makes sense to me.

Also: LEARN HOW PERIODS AND CAPITALS WORK!

  1. Notre Dame is the church and it stands in Paris. Just saying…

    • Yea… Just wanted to mention that.

      • I think he’s referring to the Notre Dame area as a “village” or portion of Paris.

        • Well, yes, he probably meant that, and there are villages in France called Notre-Dame-de-something (With many different Names in place of the “something”), but “The Hunchback of Notre-Dame” takes place in Paris and the name refers to the cathedral, there can be no doubt about that. I mean, the first words spoken (or rather, sung) in the movie are literally “Morning in Paris”. 😉

That doesn’t mean the village Belle lives in can’t be close to Paris.

          • And there’s the original story by Victor Hugo, of course.

          • Even in the setting of both B&B and Hunchback, I think Paris is a *little* too big to be simply “missed” in the former.

        • To say nothing of the fact that Belle lives in a provincial village where you’d be very unlikely to build a fantastically huge and expensive Gothic cathedral to service only a small community. And how would we possibly miss it throughout the entire film when a building that size would be visible for miles around in the countryside?

    • NovaAlexandria

It bothered me too. He will have to put it on his next top 11 F*** Ups, which should be due soon as it has been some time since the last.

      • ThatManWithTheHeadband12

Due soon? He put Douchey up in the Plot Hole 3 years ago and hasn’t been down since

        • NovaAlexandria

Like I said, due soon. It would be awesome to see another one as I enjoyed them. Heck, he pulled out Chester A bum for the first time in a really long time, time to pull out a few others.

    • Yeah, I found that hilarious. It’s as if we Europeans would be talking about people living in Mount Rushmore. Technically it IS possible, but it just seems VERY unlikely.

    • Yeah, and it is pretty clear that Beauty and the Beast is in a more remote village. Nowhere near Paris.

    • Exactly. And a girl living in Paris (one of the biggest capital cities in Europe, then and now) probably wouldn’t be complaining about her life being “provincial”.

  2. GenrlContctUnit Arbitrary

    I’m sure I read somewhere that Eugene/Flynn is 23

  3. Even though they’re just conspiracies, they’re always fun to talk about! I mean, that’s just human nature!

  4. GenrlContctUnit Arbitrary

Elsa is supposed to live in the 18th century and she’s supposed to be royalty. Her sexuality should have no bearing on marriage

  5. First item on the list and it’s already showing off Doug’s lack of Google skills. We’re hitting the ground running.

    • Really? Elsa is a lesbian because she refuses male suitors? It’s not like a large part of the movie is about her being scared of her possible inability to control her powers, sheltering herself from everyone. That has nothing to do with her pushing men away, like she’s also done with her sister her entire life.

I don’t mind somewhat vague theories but most of this list is just grasping at straws, reading into things that most likely aren’t there.

      • There’s far more to the theory than what Doug mentions.
There are many references to being locked behind doors, ie, a closet
        Becoming one’s true self. etc

      • NovaAlexandria

The first item on the list wasn’t the frozen theory, it would be theory #11 as it was the first theory talked about. And yes, it’s a massive mistake that everyone should know… Notre Dame is a church, not a city. Hell, in the movie they make it quite clear the city is Paris, even if you SOMEHOW didn’t know what city Notre Dame was in.

      • I really want them to make Elsa asexual, because we need some representation too.

      • Also, trying to claim Merida as lesbian after she turns down several suitors is a bit of a stretch. Maybe she just has standards. I mean, did you LOOK at those guys? I think she can do better…

  6. Just to point out with the whole Genie/Merchant one from Aladdin… The theory also backs up the claim a little by pointing out that everyone in the movie has 4 fingers on each hand EXCEPT the merchant, who only has 3… Who else only has 3 fingers? Genie.

  7. actually, during the Middle Ages blue clothing dye (or at least indigo dye) involved urine in its manufacture. So maybe in the Disney universe everyone is just grossed out that Belle and the Beast wear pee-based clothing.

    • Well it’s a very good thing that Beauty and the Beast seems to take place in the 1700s then, FAR after the Middle Ages. Otherwise that might be very awkward.

  8. About the time of the Aladdin Blu-Ray release, the directors confirmed the Genie is the Salesman theory to be true. I think that confirmation might actually be on the disc itself.

  9. If you are going to include lion king in Hercules, might as well toss in Aladdin during their team up in the T.V. series. Glad you didn’t tack on Tarzan though.

    • NovaAlexandria

Man, I had forgotten about that. Simba showed up in the roman games too during an episode of Timon and Pumba, which would put the Lion King at the same rough time line as Hercules and Aladdin.

  10. The theory I kept hearing was that Elsas parents were Tarzans parents as well. That they didn’t sink but ended up on that island and got killed by Sabor. Thus making Elza and Tarzan brother and sister. I mean it didn’t make sense but it was the big one i kept hearing for conspiracy theories. I think even the director said he liked that theory on Reddit somewhere.

    • Came here to post about this one! Though unlikely it certainly raises the most interesting possibilities for a tie-in between two Disney properties like that,

    • Tarzan’s parents are Lord and Lady Greystroke and they are from England. They are not the King and Queen of Arendelle. Also even if they were, Tarzan takes place in the African rainforest, it seems unlikely that a ship that went down between Denmark and Germany had survivors wash up in central Africa.

      • NovaAlexandria

And their ship burned up. Elsa’s parents was capsized by a wave during a violent storm. The boats have nothing in common other than being a boat… I mean ship.

  11. GenrlContctUnit Arbitrary

That would explain why there were no humans in the Lion King. 3500 years ago, when the Greek myths are traditionally dated to, South Africa was practically empty but for very thinly spread hunter gatherers

    • NovaAlexandria

Actually, according to an episode of Timon and Pumba, the Lion King takes place during the Romen Empire era. Still little colonisation of a lot of Africa at the time though.

      • Episodes of Timon and Pumba have also concerned modern times. One episode with the hyenas had a circus ape crashland out of a plane on top of them. That series shouldn’t be considered for any kind of central continuity between the films.

        • Hercules’ cartoon had Romulus and Remus ruling over Rome even though Ancient Greece only lasted between 8th century BC and 6th century BC even though Romulus only ruled in the 7th century.

I’m honestly not sure how accurate that really is (not to mention Icarus of all people was accidentally responsible for making the city so great…).

Really Disney stuff takes a ton of artistic license with historical accuracy as it is already though…

  12. Okay, I’m pretty sure Elsa doesn’t have a boyfriend because 1) she’s too busy running Arendelle off screen to date anyone and get to that point in a relationship, 2) she’s still trying hard to make it up to Anna that she was never there for her sister (that’s how I explain how stubborn she acted in Frozen Fever), or 3) she doesn’t care about being in a romantic relationship.

  13. The reason Tiana, Belle, and Cinderella are wearing gloves is because they are all going to a party with dancing.

    • TheSuicidalTeddybear

So did Sleeping Beauty at the end, so that’s false

      • TheSuicidalTeddybear

        I meant Aurora

      • NovaAlexandria

She was going to a family reunion, not a ball per say. She was also in the middle of getting dressed and moping when she was lured away. She might have put her gloves on before going down to the room if events had been different as it is not comfortable to sit about wearing gloves.

        • Aurora would not have worn gloves because she is a princess in Medieval times, whereas the princesses wearing evening gloves are in time periods that are at least the late 18th century (when evening gloves became a staple of women’s fashion) or, in the case of Tiana, an early modern-period.

    • I thought you wore gloves for night time parties.

    • It seems to me that during most of the movie Frozen, Elsa didn’t have much of an opportunity for a boyfriend. She spent much of her childhood and adolescence both emotionally and socially isolated, in an attempt to keep her powers in check. After that, she tried to keep other people safe from her ice powers by physically isolating herself. Really, about the only serious opportunities she’d have had for a romantic relationship would have come after nearly all of the events of the movie had taken place. She might be gay; she might not. There’s really no good way of knowing.

That said, I suspect that Disney values parents’ wallets too much to risk pissing them off by making Elsa outright lesbian. I wouldn’t put it past Disney to imply it via plausibly deniable subtext, but I doubt the company would do more than that.

  14. Dory amnesia is caused by her guilt over her responsability in the massacre of a clown fish family years ago

  15. wannabedisneyprincess92

A lot of these are wrong and being the Disney nerd that I, this will bother me for awhile.

  16. Anybody notice Doug called Idina Menzel the same name John Travolta called her?

  17. Wow, seriously… You think that any small, mountainous village is Paris? That’s like comparing Washington D.C. with any random small town in the state of Washington. It sounds similar and you can have people from both places visiting each other. But that’s where any comparison ends.
Yes, there was the nod to Belle, confirming to the common audience that both stories take place in France and take place in the same “universe” and may even take place during the same time period (although that’s debatable, considering the author of the Hunchback was very specific and the author of Beauty & the Beast very vague in terms of detailed storytelling).
But the two stories taking place in the same locations is just ridiculous. There are tons of palaces spread all over France and there have been tons of “Princes” that were royal, but just too far down the ladder to make a claim for the throne. Technically that could’ve been any small town with a nearby palace that housed a prince that wouldn’t get his chance at the crown and grew grumpy and spoiled.
Now that I think about it, it would make a nice “conspiracy theory” as you call it, to try and uncover who the prince from Beauty & the Beast is based upon… hm….

  18. Lilo & Stitch Shouldn’t be on this list period. Bell is an Outcast because she wears Blue? That’s the Dumbest Conspiracy I’ve ever heard. And the Glove Conspiracy is just silly. The Gloves are just apart of them. Leave it at that. I’m not so sure about Elsa being a Lesbian, but if she is awesome. Tho if there was a deeper meaning to it, then that’s quite interesting. The first Lesbian Princess. And from Disney. And it’s also cool that Elsa is the first Disney Princess to be a Queen. All we need now is a showdown between Elsa & Sunny Gummi to see who’s the first Young, Cute &/or Beautiful Disney Queen.

    • tastetherainbowmothafuka

Actually the Belle wearing blue thing is kind of true, but not in the context that he said

The animators decided to make Belle’s dress blue so she would stand out from the crowd and be different from everyone else. And that’s why they made sure the Beast’s EYES were also blue. To show the connection on how these two are both outcasts but good people.
No one would’ve noticed if the creators come out and say it. So the way Doug described it wasn’t exactly right, but the color coding was actually relevant. Research 🙂

  19. *DO PITCH PERFECT!!!!*

  20. Lilo and Stitch Shouldn’t be on this list period. Bell is an Outcast because she wears Blue? That’s the Dumbest Conspiracy I’ve ever heard.

  21. You really need to sample the song “One Step Beyond” by Madness.

  22. I will be very impressed if Disney actually does decide to give Elsa a girlfriend in the sequel. Granted this would be quite the risk as we know that some parents who take their kids to see Disney Movies might still cling to extreme conservative views.
Personally, if they did give Elsa a girlfriend, I’d have no problem with it and think it would add not only a new and great dimension to this character, but Disney itself.

  23. Can you talk about the MTV series Good Vibes and Daria?

And on a side note, I mention this all before, why don’t you review a classic horror like this one I’ve finally found after all these years after just seeing a few scenes of it and never knowing how it ended. It’s called Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama. You might like it. Maybe.

Also what do think of these TV series shows called:
    John Doe
    Forever Knight
    The Misfits (British Show)
Misfits of Science (Movie and series)
    and The Zeta Project
(I think some of these shows are like Sonic the Hedgehog a.k.a. Sonic Sat a.m. They all have incomplete ending.)

P.S. Is there anyway you can review the Japanese versions of Ironman, Wolverine, X-men and Blade? I’d also really like to hear what you think about the FX series Archer and Chozen.

P.S.S. And I never found out if you were going talk more about the Disney Afternoon shows Gummi Bears, Chip N Dale’s Rescue Rangers, Talespin(even the hour uncut movie special I found about it) and Darkwing Duck. Also you never answer my question, If you hate the Goof Troop song: “Gotta Be Gettin’ Goofy” then does that mean you hate The Darkwing Duck Rap?

  24. Lilo and Stitch Shouldn’t be on this list period. Bell is an Outcast because she wears Blue? That’s the Dumbest Conspiracy I’ve ever heard. And the Glove Conspiracy is just silly. The Gloves are just apart of them. Leave it at that. I’m not so sure about Elsa being a Lesbian, but if she is awesome. Tho if there was a deeper meaning to it, then that’s quite interesting. • Please stop repeating yourself. I get that you messed up the first time, but no need to do it this many times.

The whole point of all of these is that they are silly.

  25. There´s an amazing theory that says Mulan is the Dragon Stone Spirit.

Remember the Dragon Stone that Mushu tried to wake up but it broke instead? If that´s the Spirit protector of the family, why didn´t it woke up? The theory says that Mulan became the Dragon Spirit when she took the decision of taking her father´s place. She became the protector of the family and the Stone didn´t woke up because the spirit wasn´t there anymore. Mulan even makes the decision when she´s sitting IN THE DRAGON STONE! And also the reflection theme takes place somehow because during the Reflection song we see Mulan and the Dragon Stone reflecting at the same time in the pond.

  26. Wha? Brave was miles better than Frozen.

  27. elsa wheres gloves

    • In Frozen the wearing of gloves is seen as hiding something about yourself. Elsa wears the gloves to hide her powers, and the first time that Hans takes off his gloves he reveals his true villainous nature, only to once more act like a good guy when he puts them back on.

One could argue this breaks down a bit when Anna and Kristoff are wearing gloves later one, but given that they are actually the ones in an environment where wearing gloves would be a necessity, ie. frozen mountaintop, its kinda of a null point and could even be argued that while wearing their gloves they are hiding the their growing interest/attraction to each other.

  28. A 14 year old working for Disney in Florida would be legal. The legal working age starts at 14.
