Good news about Baccano! You can rent the series from Netflix. That’s how my dad and I got to watch it. And it is a requirement to watch the series in the English dub. Easily the best dub in existence.

I feel like “Space Brothers” should have at least gotten an honorable mention, especially for us hard scifi fanboys. I haven’t met one person that has seen it IRL, and while it is currently being released in the states by Sentai Filmworks, it’s not being dubbed in English at all. For something that’s so faithful to NASA (in anime form), it’s a shame.

So… am I a super Otaku or is the top 10 not as obscure as it could be? I’ve watched all of them and own/have owned 4

I don’t think the top 10 is obscure at all, nope. XD

Maybe he thinks his audience are teenagers…..and even if that’s true, they should know most of the top 10

Well to be fair Will says several times in the video that he’s talked to and been in conventions with a lot of fans and have said these are series they haven’t seen. Which means they may be series that they’ve heard or know about but haven’t watch with is different then series you just know a few things about but haven’t invested any time in watching. So I don’t think it’s referencing just teens as much as people in general who haven’t picked up a bunch of titles and he’s giving ones to recommend.

Bingo. This list is not “25 of the Most Obscure and Inaccessible Anime Even Diehard Otaku have Never Heard Of.” It’s specifically designed for the average anime viewer, and I back up what Will said – I attend anime conventions with him multiple times a year, and you would be amazed by the number of casual anime fans who have never heard of over 50% of what’s on the list. Have die-hard bighuge fans of anime heard of most, if not all, of these? Sure, probably. I’d heard of the majority of what’s on this list before I even got… Read more »

Heh weird how you literally release this the same day Chris Stuckman did his video talking about his anime collection as some of his (noteably Ergo Proxy and Sword of the Stranger) are on your list. Then again guess there’s a difference between one guy noting a few and actually catching all of these titles which I admit… the only one I’ve seen is Paranoia Agent as that did air on Adult Swim like 10 years back though if you’re going with “titles you may not of heard of now and need to check out” that is also one to… Read more »

I really liked Chris’s anime collection video! Honest question… would you be interested in seeing Will or I do something similar?

Heh if you threw a joke about you guys showing what a real anime lover’s collection is like in the beginning just to be a referencial jerk…. though seriously that could work a video. Especially since I’m sure you and Will have differing tastes on these so talking about different memories or thoughts on the titles as well would make for a differing dynamic worth checking out.

Pretty good list, I can honestly say I’ve only seen 10 of these, and a few those I’ve not watched the entire series.

Being a fan of DBZ and Yu-Yu Hakusho, I love Hajime no Ippo – It takes the idea of an escalating series of fights and applies them to a very real world boxing saga. No fireballs, dodging bullets, or spiritual auras…just a classic tale of a poor kid that nobody thought much of making his way through the boxing world.

For those interested, Planetes had some edition problems also in france a while ago but now it is back, both the manga and the anime, so the fans shouldn’t lose hope. Also the dvds have both english sub and dub, so the fans could find some vendors that ship internationally.

“Sunday Without God.” A story involving a gunslinger, and there are miracles without God’s help. Why does that sound familiar? I think I’m going to go get me a shot of Wind Turkey.

Trust me; it’s a very unique show. There’s not much like it; if anything at all….you could compare it to Kino’s Journey and that would be a stretch.

“A David Lynch film on mescaline.” You mean a David Lynch film.

Aah, thanks for reminding me about Welcome to the NHK! Used to watch that with an Anime club before it kinda dissolved due to many members (myself included :/ ) developing, ironically enough, hikikomori tendencies and not showing up to meetings anymore. Last episode I watched had him escaping into an MMO (to RMT for money, I believe…)

Man, I haven’t seen most of these anime because I don’t find them interesting OR they’ve been hyped up too much and I really didn’t have the patience to see it unfold four or five episodes in (Steins;Gate, for example).

Exceptions are Angel Beats! (which is permanently stalled at 20 episodes) and Monster (permanently stalled at 53 episodes). Both are good, but I don’t know if I’ll ever return to them because I’ll have to rewatch them to remind myself what’s happened, and I don’t think I’ll enjoy Angel Beats! like I did before because my tastes in genres have changed.
