Treat You Better by Shawn Mendes – Pop Song Review

The new song by Shawn M’endes…

About Todd in the Shadows

  1. Love your reviews Todd keep it up!

  2. “He could be singing about checking for gas leaks”! BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

Actually, at least that song would be useful.

There are genuine nice guys out there. But here’s the thing: they’re nice because it’s the right way to be, not to try to get into a girl’s pants. See, that latter? That’s not being nice: that’s pretending to be nice for selfish reasons. Big difference.

    • It’s like paying for a candy bar. Not charity.

    • I fully agree with your latter statement. That is exactly why I don’t believe “Treat You Better” for one second. I don’t believe at all that Shawn Mendes is actually a nice guy. Instead he comes off as a douche who’s treating the relationship like a competition.

It’s almost as bad as Cake by the Ocean, where Joe Jonas complains to a girl that she’s with an ideal guy who actually has his life together, rather than him who, based of those previous lyrics, is implied to be a complete tool who’s just in it for sex on the beach.

  3. Huh, I guessed the gender swap song was going to be Avril Lavigne – Girlfriend

    • Yeah so was I. But thanks Todd for reviewing this. I’ve been wishing for this review since I heard this song. Shawn Mendes sounds so whiny and I’m sorry but when I think gentleman I don’t think of someone who was 17 at the time and is whining that some girl he has a crush on at his high school is with some other kid. I also don’t think of someone who’s trying to be a wannabe of teenage Justin Bieiber.

    • “Girlfriend” doesn’t really fit because it’s more from the POV of the “bad girl”.

  4. I actually haven’t heard this song. It might be because I listen to a radio station where the only Shawn Mendes song they play is Stitches. Well, I rather a guy pretend to be nice than be a straight up douchebag.

  5. I never thought “I Know What You Did Last Summer” (the film) was that bad. What’s so terrible about it?

  6. I think it’s quite clearly “better than he can”.

  7. What I hear is “than R. Kelly can!”

  8. Besides just reviewing “Creep,” is there anything that can be brought up from comparing some of the best covers of it?

If so, I’d love to see that

  9. There should be a comedy skit with Mendes flailing around on the floor in the rain frothing at the mouth about a break-up with Taylor Swift
