Dennis the Menace in the United States is actually based on a very old comic of the same name started in 1951 (thanks Wikipedia!). It even had a black and white live action TV show based on it from the late 50s.
When movie studios started remaking all those old TV sitcoms into movies in the 90’s after the success of the Brady Bunch movie, it was inevitable that Dennis the Menace would get a movie no one wanted based on a quaint old TV show nobody cared about anymore too.
