This is literally my favorite movie of all time! The animation, the acting, the story, just everything is fantastic! I found Lilo to be extremely relatable when I first saw it. Also the relationship between her sister and her reflected the relationship between me and my sister at the time. And her best friend is an alien?! That’s the dream! Me seeing this was similar to Doug’s experience seeing Land Before Time. When my sister and I went to the movies to see the live-action Scooby Doo, it was completely sold out and all that was left was to see this movie. So I saw it and fell in love with it! Then when I saw Scooby Doo later, Lilo and Stitch is a billion times better.
I really need to track down the DVD for it because I really want to watch it so badly!
I’m surprised Doug didn’t mention anything about the fact that this is ….{drum roll}……AN ORIGINAL STORY! it’s like the first time…..EVER that Disney completely made up their own story and didn’t base it on some classic book or older story or something. they made this up completely 100% from scratch, and they were proud as fuck of that.
Except I don’t think that’s true. Were The Rescuers based on anything? or the aristocats? bambi or dumbo seem like they might have been based off something, but idk what if they are.
Actually, all if those are based on books or short stories.
That said, I don’t think Lilo and Stich is actually the first Disney original story (at the very least, I think Atlantis is also an original story).
I get that you’d like to see more of the family, since they were so well done, but I’m not so sure the movie could work if it was solely based on them. I feel like there’s only so far you can delve into the relationship without a bigger plot outside of the relationship, but I could be wrong.
I’d say the aliens are way more than “ok”, especially Stitch. He and Lilo are adorable together, and twice as hilarious than alone. Man Doug, I’m glad you really loved a lot of this movie, but GAHHHHH you’re really tearing up my childhood a new one here!
Lilo and Stitch is one of the greatest anime movies of all time.
