In my opinion, the movie got a bit too preachy. It wasn’t content with an environmental message, or a commercialism message, or a “technology is ruining our social interaction and health” message, it had to go for the trifecta. Like you said, I think the best way to get across their environmental message was, in fact, the environment itself and I don’t think the other messages were necessary at all. Why on Earth (or off it) was the BnL guy the apparent leader of humanity? He was acting like the President of Earth, not the CEO of a major corporation.
