Oh God! Never do that title card duck face again! That is 31 flavors of disturbing right there.
Well, guess I gonna have nightmares tonight.
Dat thumbnail pic.
I don’t know if it’s because the character designers are awesome at their jobs or if it’s because Kate Micucci already looks like a cute duck, but my god did they get Webby to look so much like Kate that it’s uncanny.
Yeah, she now has her own damn individual look.
Sad… Disney XD’s youtube channel is not available outside of America. *sigh*
to this day I still dont understand why people would but these blockades into sites its THE WORLD WIDE WEB!
It is because of commercials. And yes, it is stupid.
I can’t see why that is a reason unless they have some kind of bad deal with a national company, while being international itself and putting the video up on a international website. I mean, YouTubers don’t have that restriction, and there would be way less of them if they did. The whole option to make such a restriction on any free international site should be removed, let them host it themselves if they want to do that.
They even do it with things you have to pay for; I’m going to have to go to America to buy the soundtracks to both Daredevil (Netflix) and Agent Carter.
I’ve always assumed it’s because the postage to get those digital tracks to Australia is so expensive. (eyeroll.)
* actually, cdrood’s answer is the correct one.
Usually it’s because they’ve sold distribution rights to companies in other countries or have deals in place with sponsors there. Disney owns their networks outright in the US. That’s not necessarily true in other countries. Those partners are paying for exclusive rights to content. A company will always take guaranteed payment over something that can vary due to customer actions.
I watched that episode. Holy shit, Disney has rebooted something right again! I’m so hyped to see more, despite the fact I don’t have digital cable or satellite…
And you guys are scarred by his duck face? I’m still perturbed by his Lorax thumbnail. That is the true face of nightmare fuel.
Both are.
Geez, Doug! That face is going to haunt my nightmares!
Actually, we atleast know that Huey, Dewey and Louie’s (forgive any possible bad spelling, they have COMPLETELY different names over here in Holland) mother is called Dumbella Duck. Don Rosa drew her as a kid a few times, and once in a family tree, but even he wouldn’t go any deeper into this character. As a fan of both the comics and the original show, I gotta say for this reason alone I would keep watching! It helps that the rest of the show rocks too ๐
She appeared in a Robot Chicken sketch once I think that’s about it.
I think she’s going to be called “Della Duck” here. That was her name in the original short that introduced the triplets.
Her name was always Della; she was just nicknamed ‘Dumb Della’ (’cause she was kind of flaky) and some people misinterpreted that to mean her name was Dumbella. In the comics, Della left the triplets with Donald because she went off into space.
Archanubis-Her name in the original short was Dumbella. It was meant to show that she was the reason her boys were so wild and spoiled. The characters of the nephews were so popular that they swiftly became staples in the Disney verse.
The Real Silverstar- The name of Della was used in the comics. Dumbella was her real name during the premiere cartoon short but was never officially used again.
Sorry, you’re right. Or atleast, in English her name indeed is Della. The Dutch for some reason kept with her original name. But yeah, I guess they’ll be going with Della then ๐
This show is porn for comicbook fans (so for like most of Europe + Egypt, correct me if I’m wrong). There was never something like canon between those stories so Della duck really had only two important things to do; be twin sister to Donald and disapear. It is sad she never got treatment from Don Rosa but to be fair each of us has their own verion of Duckburg.
Cartoon Network should take notes from Disney on how to make a proper remake of an old cartoon.
Hey! The theme song actually uses lyrics! No one in America does that anymore, so that’s relieving.
Not to mention it’s more than 10-20 seconds long. When was the last time we got that outside of Japan?
-AND STEVEEEENNNNN
Anybody got the YT link to Disney XD upload of the episode? I can’t find it somehow ๐
https://youtu.be/gP0Neif7Y4E
thx but found why I was not able to find the link. Is not available in my country ๐
Huh, that was a lot to take in.
So is Donald gonna appear in every episode, there’s nothing necessarily wrong with it but it would be like Teen Titans go having Batman in every episode,I’ll have to get used to it.
It’s planned that Donald will be a regular, especially if this clip is anything to go by: https://youtu.be/3NPoyDlit1g
Donald was a regular in the Carl Barks comics that this series was based on. In fact, in some of the episodes of the 1987 series that were based on comics stories, Donald’s parts were given to other characters like Launhpad and Fenton. The ’87 show shipped Don off to the Navy for some reason, but he was regular fixture in the Donald and Uncle Scrooge adventure comics.
So wait the original show just cut donald out? That’s odd. I guess they wanted the focus to be on scrooge and the kids. Or maybe they figured donalds voice was too hard to understand so it would make the show less popular if he was in it all of the time.
They didn’t cut him out entirely – he just made the occasional guest appearances. My guess is the VA at the time (who is the VA for Donald in this show, too) wasn’t used to Donald’s unique voice, so they limited his appearances. Either that, or Donald asks for too much money! :p
I heard that they were saving Donald for other projects, but nothing came of doing that.
Interesting bit of trivia, Rescue Rangers was originally going to use the Rescuers ( Bernard and Bianca ). Disney also decided to save them for other projects.
That’s not actually true. Chip ‘n’ Dale’s Rescue Rangers was originally going to star an original character; a mouse named Kit Colby. Yes, the show was originally titled Kit Colby’s Rescue Rangers, but a Disney executive suggested that Kit Colby be replaced with Chip ‘n’ Dale, and the rest is history.

Both are true. Shows go through many changes before they’re greenlit. It’s not just a coincidence that Disney has two franchises called Rescuers that are both about heroic rodents.

Actually, Rescue Rangers was originally set to star an original character named Kit Colby (a mouse). When the idea was pitched to Disney execs, they liked the concept, but suggested that Kid Colby be swapped out for Chip ‘n’ Dale, I guess Disney felt that familiar character would help the show sell better.
It’s Cinderella all over again
I first heard about a DuckTales reboot on Disney XD during the commercials while I was watching an episode of Star Wars: Rebels. Like the next person, I was worried about whether or not it’s gonna be like the original classic. I was blown away recently when I watched the newer show’s opening on YouTube, as well as a side-by-side comparison. I haven’t gotten to watch the newer show yet, but I’m pretty sure I will in time.
Oh, and Donald said “Crazy old BIRD.”
After first episode I can say it is awesome. Also it is bit darker then original cartoon. They clearly target also geek audience this time.
I’m 6:30 into this video and I’m not liking this at all. It may be from my not seeing the original run (we didn’t have Disney Channel back then). Honestly, what’s supposed to be so great about this?
Nobody else can answer that for you, since art and peoples’ tastes are subjective. You have to use your own tastes and judgment to determine for yourself if this series is for you or not. It’s possible that this just isn’t your thing, which is fine. Everything’s not going to be enjoyed by everybody.
DuckTales didn’t originally air on the Disney Channel. It was syndicated.
I’m obviously in the minority here, but not a fan of the animation style/look of this. But may have to give it a whirl.
The art was a deliberate attempt to replicate the look of Carl Barks’ original comics.
I thought they were just adapting the style they’ve been using for those Mickey Mouse shorts lately.
Yea, it took me about 20 minutes for it to grow on me to the point where I wasn’t even aware anymore.
Sadly, Disney only made the first episode viewable for people in America.
It played on Disney XD Canada, 24 hour marathon included, and I’m sure it’s available through the app. We’re cut out of the YouTube viewing but did get it on TV. I don’t know why the UK and Australia were completely shafted for the Aug. sneak peak.
@ 15:05 – It was “Crazy old bird” – though it can be hard to understand Donald at times (no matter what show you’re watching).
@8:42 – Glomgold already knew Donald was Scrooge’s nephew; that’s why the latter was hired.
@8:02 – Well, Glomgold did call them, “The Best of the Cheapest.” ๐
I was going to buy the Ring for a security system, but now I think I’m just going to stick that Doug duck face on my front door; that’ll scare off the burglars.
the important question is when will we see darkwing duck?
I’d like to see him in a crossover with Spider-ham!
Howard the Duck cameo, anyone?
Assuming that wasn’t a joke, Howard the Duck is a Marvel comics character. Yeah, Disney owns Marvel now, but they still keep their projects separate.
I’m pretty sure Phineas and Ferb had a Marvel Crossover (and possibly also a Star Wars crossover) at some point.
The Star Wars episode was just a parody. The Avengers episode was an actual crossover though I don’t know if it’s considered canon in the comics.
This is only the first episode. The producers have to establish the main cast, their rapport and relationships; it’s too early to bust out with the cameos, guest characters and crossovers, but Darkwing has been confirmed to appear at some point.
Can I just say that image of the NC with the Donald Duck mouth is fucking terrifying?
Personally I have a few missgiving when watching the first episode. But it still looked great… it’s just:
I felt the boys were overly selfish and angsty. I mean yes they are kids and kids can be that way. But it just felt a little too “bland” as far as young boys go. Webby was the exact opposite though in that I liked her and most of the other character’s weren’t bad so I’m willing to let that small issue go.
Also I’m not a BIG fan of the animation but I’ll get used to it.
I’m also not sure how I like donald being a regular. But I’ll give it a chance.
For me seeing Donald and Scrooge together is the big draw of this show. I’ve even been poking through the Carl Barks comics a bit. The nephews are a little obnoxious, and the voices sound like they’re pushing thirty.
Love the new Webby though.
For those familiar with the comics, Donald *not* being a regular is what took getting used to. Doing an adaptation of the Carl Barks/Don Rosa comics universe without Donald Duck was like doing an adaptation of The Flintstones without Fred.
From what I’ve heard, the show writers do have an arc planned for this season, explaining what led to the falling out between Donald and Scrooge. Given what we see in this episode, it presumably has something to do with the triplets’ mother and an artifact called “the Spear of Seleni (sp?).
Doug
I really want to thank you for doing Pancreatic Cancer as your charity this week. I love your work and as a person with stage 4 pancreatic cancer I can count on you to always bring a smile to my face and take my mind off it for a little bit with each new video that you you do.
Much love โค๏ธ Man and keep up the good work.

It’s been established that Donald and Daisy are the parents of the boys.
She had them while Donald was fighting in the war BUT before they got married.
They passed them off as nephews, since there were a lot of war orphans back them, being raised by family members.
NOW is the perfect time to have the boys *legitimized* as the sons of Donald and Daisy Duck.
What on Earth gave you that idea?
From what alternative reality you come? Also Donald and Daisy aren’t married. Family name “Duck” is basically a “Smith” counterpart of this universe.
Ah, no. First, Donald and Daisy are not now nor were they ever married. Second, the triplets’ mother is and always has been Della Duck, Donald’s twin sister. Third, all of this has already been established for the new series. It’s too late to make any changes.
I was curious too. They kind of lost me at first (the triplets were a bit annoying and sounded like 20 year olds trying to sound like kids) but then remembered to take my nostalgia glasses off. By the end, I enjoyed it to the point that I WANT TO KNOW EVERTHING!!!!
I loved the hell out of this. I was there for the first airing (10 p.m. local time on a Friday night) and watched it again in the morning (funny enough, at 10 a.m. Completely unintended). It’s a little too busy with the fast talking for my taste but I was thoroughly relieved that the comedy was not at the expense of the action or the emotion, and was actually funny, and really enjoyed the overall experience. I’m on board for the show.
I immediately hate the animation style, especially compared to the original show.
EDIT: But everything else about the show seems great.
1:21 For the last time, the theory is really quite simple to explain:
Just as “we” are highly evolved monkeys that drive cars and wear clothes living in a world with other monkeys, the Disney world consists of “highly evolved” creatures that co-exist with not so highly evolved creatures as well. Is that so hard to wrap your head around??
And yes, I just referred to Goofy as being “highly evolved”
“Ah hyuk, did ya hear that?? He said I’m high-lee e-valved. Hyuk!! Ah, what does that mean??”
2:09 The writers of “Talespin” did basically say (at one point) that they were making an animated version of that early 80’s TV show. Hell, the bartender was even (coincidently) called Louie.
Nah, that’s too much of a mind-f*** for me. As a cartoonist myself, I’m not really big on super-anthropomorphized man-creatures. I’m cool with animals that talk and do some human stuff because cartoons, but I prefer for the people to be people and the animals to be animals; the humans are the ones who wear the full compliments of clothing, drive cars, own homes, hold down jobs, etc. A good example of how I handle it would be Hasbro’s Littlest Pet Shop series, minus the language barrier.
Anthropomorphic animals and non-anthropomorphic animals existing together makes no sense at all. I prefer cartoon worlds in which the people are people and the animals are animals and you don’t mix the two. If you’re going to evolve the animal characters to the point where they’re wearing pants and shoes and holding down jobs and living in houses (not as pets), going to zoos and *owning pets* then just make them cartoon humans.
Zootopia did it that way. only mammals are sapient. we don’t see pets but they eat fish and possibly whales are an exception for sapience since there is a blubber shack.
we usually don’t eat whales in real life but some of the characters in Zootopia are strictly meat eating and they can’t eat the other sapients.
So, when the show comes back in September; Any chances for Ducktales VLogs in the upcoming future?
I enjoyed the episode, love tennant as scrooge and I loved the original voice actor.
Tiger, Good luck with the charity for pancreatic cancer. My great uncle died from it. I can’t imagine how it feels to lose both parents to it.
Huey, Dewey and Louie’s Mother is Della Duck, Donald’s Twin Sister.
