Hey, good review! I would be first comment, but it maybe crashed 7/8ths way through, we’ll see if this posts.
Personally going through a moralistic phase, so Sprt is not happy that “there are no consequences”, but then you guys said it’s more like cartoons, so whatever.
I’ll try to forget the spoiler-parts, but happy to learn it’s got some “meh” then bits of interest, and watchable.
Maybe if I’m invited to a theatre party, I’ll go – with a big happy crowd sounds best.
Peace out!
So what about the losers who are STILL whining and bitching about the star wars prequels if I am not mistaken some of those losers are actually Brad Jones friends!
You mean people like Doug Walker, who is pathologically incapable of going 24 hours without bashing the prequels? Maybe now that he’s gotten what he wanted (Episode 4.1, The Force Awakens), he’ll finally shut up about them and move on. But probably not.
Like I’ve said on other reviews here, Paul Feig characters do not talk or act like actual people, and there is that cartoon callousness without consequences where you can throw Bill Murray out of a window, kill him, and nobody cares because you are watching people that don’t act or talk like people.
I’m pretty sure I’m going to hate this movie, because I liked how the original Ghostbusters managed to be very funny, atmospheric, and had characters you could believe were real.
I’m also disappointed that they have all these crazy sci-fi CG weapons. It just takes it a little farther away from the what made the original so great with it’s tempered approach to the fantastic, rather than assaulting you with super-science and magic until it becomes mundane.
Funny thing you mentioned Slimer Cartoon, ’cause it’s planned.
It feels to me like the studio didn’t have a lot of confidence in this movie’s ability to stand on its own, so they felt the need to insert cameos by the original cast and references from the first movie. Whether that’s because it has an all-female cast or not I can’t say, but given how squirmy Hollywood is about action movies with female leads, I wouldn’t be surprised. They refuse to make movies starring female superheroes, because the Hollywood suits are convinced that males won’t go to see movies featuring attractive women in skintight outfits. Thus, Wonder Woman and Black Widow can only appear as supporting players in movies starring male heroes.
Regarding the accusations that anyone who dislikes this movie is a misogynist, I’m reminded of Brad’s retort to evangelicals who defended “Old Fashioned.” They said: “It doesn’t have to be filth to be good.” Brad replied: “Fair enough, but you know what it does have to be? GOOD!” Likewise, I’m not going to give this movie a free pass just because it has a female cast. That would be patronizing. Feminism is about EQUALITY, and that means it has to stand or fall on its own merits.
Are you two drunk or incompetent? This film was appalling and I do feel that you are trying to be “risqué” by going against the overwhelming male and female opinion, you two should give up being critics if you are attempting to defend this pile of nonsense, shame on both of you for trying to generate hype for yourselves you liars.
If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times: DON’T. WATCH. THE TRAILERS. THEY ALL SUCK. THEY WILL SPOIL EACH AND EVERY GOOD THING AND POISON YOUR OPINION. The days of Hollywood trailers being suitably evocative and selling the audience on the movie are long gone with no sign of them ever returning. 99+% of all modern trailers stink, and will ruin the experience.
Dang; speaking as somebody who’s never had any issues with Ms. Pregler and always liked her work, I don’t think I’ve ever been more on the same page with her.
