  1. MidnightScreeningsman2014

Bah humbug said scrooge as he was handed this crappy movie

  2. Ah I remember when my school friends had JTT pictures in their Trapper Keepers.

  3. Well to the film’s credit theres…

    – The Vulture
    – The girlfriend warning to lash back at the jerk
    – and the girlfriend even addressing anti sexism racism, and even anti-homophibia which is something that’s not pretty common in for Disney, or family entertainment from the time in general

So kudos to those I guess.

  4. So another review with no clips of a movie that is still in theatres next week?

    • Your loss. Those reviews are awesome!

    • I already saw Rogue One twice, and I love it as much as The Force Awakens.

    • Considering that those are consistently the most popular and most viewed reviews, I highly doubt you will be missed.

    • I’m sure letting Doug know that you personally don’t watch his clipless reviews is going to make him stop making them, despite the fact there are plenty of people who do watch them.

    • I still give those reviews a chance because people CAN improve…but I agree that those reviews have by and large been poor. Doug and crew are talented content creators but they can’t do everything right. When it comes to ‘skits’ and freeform content they just haven’t had what it takes.

I don’t expect Rogue One to completely turn things around but maybe it’ll have a couple moments that make it worth watching.

  5. hmm, pretty thoughtful review this time around, I like it

  6. Is it just me or does this seem like a Tim Allen film made for Jonathon?
Not only does he riff like Tim in this and have the same unfunny joke monologues like Tim did in Home Improvement, they even try doing the “likable” asshole arc that Tim Allen likes to do.

Seriously, this does come off like a Christmas for the Kranks movie for kids.
    Everyone is a dick.

  7. I never liked Johnathan Taylor Thomas. I thought you’d review “The Nutcracker in 3D”. Hey, I gave you that idea! Was the last bit about Donald Trump? You know, with how we’ll be fine with him as President? I was wondering why Chester A. Bum wasn’t doing any reviews lately.

  8. Funny how this “college” looks and sounds an awful lot like high school! I don’t recall having lockers in college…unless that’s for people that dorm or something. I commuted to college. But I know people I went to college with didn;t stuff nerds in lockers, or bribed their way through tests, and there really weren’t any real cliques like jocks and nerds either.

    • Speaking as someone who went to college, and spent a short time in a dorm room, I agree with you.

    • It’s a Disney movie so they made the college the way that tweens think college should be, not the way it actually is.

Also, I commuted in school and we did have lockers available to rent for the semester. Since the campus was spread out over 2 miles in a town, it was convenient to have a locker to stash books and other things without having to trudge with multiple books and/or stop off at your car which was far from most of the actual campus.

  9. Is there anyway you can review the Japanese versions of Ironman, Wolverine, X-men and Blade?

Can you also talk about the MTV series Good Vibes and Daria?

And on a side note, I mention this all before, why don’t you review a classic horror like this one I’ve finally found after all these years after just seeing a few scenes of it and never knowing how it ended. It’s called Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama. You might like it. Maybe.

Also what do think of these TV series shows called:
    John Doe
    Forever Knight
    The Misfits (British Show)
Misfits of Science (Movie and series)
    and The Zeta Project
(I think some of these shows are like Sonic the Hedgehog a.k.a. Sonic Sat a.m. They all have incomplete ending.)

P.S. Is there anyway you can review the Japanese versions of Ironman, Wolverine, X-men and Blade? I’d also really like to hear what you think about the FX series Archer and Chozen.

P.S.S. And I never found out if you were going talk more about the Disney Afternoon shows Gummi Bears, Chip N Dale’s Rescue Rangers, Talespin(even the hour uncut movie special I found about it) and Darkwing Duck. Also you never answer my question, If you hate the Goof Troop song: “Gotta Be Gettin’ Goofy” then does that mean you hate The Darkwing Duck Rap?

    • You know, I was going to tell you to fuck off, and stop posting the same shit on every video, but I’ll take the NC’s advice, and simply wish you a Merry Christmas and then ignore you like everyone else in your life.

    • Merry Christmas, OmegaX2000.

I hope that one day, you’ll decide that it’s not fun to do things for the sake of being hated, that you’ll give honest discussion a chance, and that you’ll find the joy that comes with positive reception.

    • You don’t really get what he himself reviews, do you? Many of the things you list would be better for some of the other reviewers on this site. The others are just things no one needs to review because they don’t connect at all to the audience.
Though the mention of Daria made me realize– he hasn’t done the Beavis & Butthead movie yet, has he?

      • The Real Silverstar

“(Doug) hasn’t done the Beavis & Butthead movie yet, has he?”

No, and honestly, how does one make fun of something like Beavis & Butthead? That franchise is its’ own riff party. No comedic review of B&B could be any more outrageous than the real thing.

  10. I was actually wondering 5 years ago if you would ever get to review this one, and I’m wondering if this is better or worse than Christmas with the Kranks.

The only Jonathan Taylor Thomas movies you’ve listed that I’ve seen are Tom & Huck (which I barely remember) and Wild America (which I think is good). BTW, Mortdecai is released on Blu-ray, because that movie was released in this decade.

This Christmas, I’m going to Arizona with my mom and sister to visit my brother and his family, and I didn’t need to be bribed to come along by Bill Lumbergh from Office Space.

I agree that there WERE a lot of deaths in 2016, one of them being the United States of America right after the election. (R.I.P. 1776-2016)

I agree there should be more Bum Reviews in 2017.

Why is the cop with the wife that left him thinks he’s talking to the real Santa Claus. That’s Jonathan Taylor Thomas, not Edmund Gwenn, Richard Attenborough, David Huddleston, or even Douglas Seale. IDIOT!

About the thing with the fake liver: Y’KNOW, FOR KIDS! =D

At least Jessica Biel went on to be in better movies and eventually married Justin Timberlake.

This movie was one step away from being as bad as “Old Fashioned.”

    Nice ending, Doug.

    • I agree that there WERE a lot of deaths in 2016, one of them being the United States of America right after the election. (R.I.P. 1776-2016)

WILL YOU PLEASE STOP?! #1, It’s Christmas, did you NOT hear what Doug said? #2. WE WILL NOT DIE!!! We are fine, we WILL be fine, and we will be better off than we have been the last 8 years! Keep in mind not everyone on this site voted the way you did! So for their sakes, STOP!

      • It’s easy to look at your comment and downvote it, because it’s easy to hate someone who voted for Trump. It’s also easy to decide that it’s not worth trying to figure you out, because the damage has been done.

So, I won’t do any of that. Instead, I’m going to ask you, why you thought that Donald Trump was the correct choice for America’s future. And yes, I’ve heard all the worst possible things from my liberal news sources and my John Olivers, but none of those matter.

SpikeGal, I want you to do your damnedest to change my negative opinion on Trump.

      • The Real Silverstar

“WE WILL NOT DIE!!! We are fine, we WILL be fine, and we will be better off than we have been the last 8 years!”

What was so bad about the last 8 years, exactly? Climbing out from a recession? Unemployment and gas prices being at an all-time low? One of our nation’s worst enemies being dealt with by Seal Team 6? Gradually pulling out of 2 wars which we were unnecessarily involved in? The country taking its’ first steps toward everyone having affordable healthcare? Equal rights for LGBTs? Yeah, the last 8 years sure were terrible.

“Keep in mind not everyone on this site voted the way you did! So for their sakes, STOP!”

You could just accept that not everyone thinks like you, allow people to have differing opinions but still try to treat them like rational thinking human beings and treat them decently despite their differing ideologies instead of screaming “DON’T SAY MEAN THINGS ABOUT THE POLARIZING GUY I VOTED FOR!!!” like a spoiled brat on a sugar high, but that would be too much like maturity, and we sure can’t have any of that in the comments section.

        • The Real Silverstar

Side bar: I hope the Trump supporters are right about The Don doing great. He hasn’t given me any reason to feel optimistic yet but at the same time he hasn’t actually been sworn in yet. I’ve chosen to take a “wait and see” approach.

          • Of course. No one WANTS Donald to be a horrible president, because that would mean that we all suffer for it. I would be ecstatic to discover that the man I had zero faith in this election ends up being a competent world leader.

But I’m not holding my breath.

          • Thanks for the support, guys. I don’t have faith in Trump, but with good people like us, I still have faith in the good old US of A.

      • “and we will be better off than we have been the last 8 years!”

Who is we? Rich White America?

      • “WE WILL NOT DIE!!! We are fine, we WILL be fine, and we will be better off than we have been the last 8 years!”

We (as in the American people) were already fine, and I have to say that I’m getting just a little tired of people trying to claim that Barrack Obama was a bad president when it’s really the opposite. Unemployment lowered under Obama, Gas prices went down under Obama. We have a better healthcare system under Obama, but Conservatives always seem to have a selective memory when it comes to recalling this. Republicans refused to compromise with Obama on anything, and much of it stemmed from the fact that most of them HATED the idea of calling a brown skinned man “Sir”.

Listen, I don’t like Donald Trump. I didn’t vote for him and if I had it to do over again, I *still* wouldn’t for him, but at the same time, I don’t want to see him fail because I’m also an American and if the president crashes and burns, the entire country will suffer. Trump supporters seem to believe that Orange Man is Superman and that he’s going to swoop into the White House and immediately solve all of America’s problems. I don’t share that optimism, but I’m going to respectfully refrain from dumping on the man until he does something worthy of being dumped on.

I’m no Social Justice Warrior. I’m not politically correct and I think that extreme liberals overdo it with the touchy feelys. I find Traditional Values Warriors (TVWs) to be just as annoying and overbearing as SJWs. I don’t care about being PC, but I do believe that we as humans should at least try to be civil towards one another, and I don’t apologize for that. White, Black, rich, working class, poor, gay, straight, we’re ALL Americans and America was great before Trump was elected President and it will continue to be great after he’s out of office.

  11. What a crummy looking movie. And seriously, were these people in college or high school? Because they look like high-schoolers, as does the setting of the “campus” and look of the hallway and classroom but they were supposed to be in college? I guess it could have been a boarding school or something.

But what a crummy looking movie and JTT seems like an utter non-presence in it, I never did get why that DBag was popular.

    • That’s what I said. I don’t recall college ever looking like that! I don’t recall college people acting like that either! I never had a locker in college, nor were there any cliques.

  12. I also went to a high school that also had the word “college” in its name despite it not be a university or a college in the sense of what you usually think when you hear the word.

  13. I’m mixed about this review….I respect the message and the explanation as to why JTT’s character doesn’t work. But at the same time, I didn’t really laugh, the jokes weren’t that great, and idk, I felt like there could have been more to the review than just a kind of clunky plot to the overall message. it felt very repetitive

Still, the ending was good and the final message was nice. It makes up for a review for a film that was mostly one joke….

  14. Okay, that rant at the ‘douche’ at the end… Someone who has any skill in doing so, I would actually really love a clip of just that. I know some people that could use that, and others that would love to hear it. Mostly on one particular forum site I’m on.

  15. Love the ending monologue. Very obvious he wrote it based on 2016 in general

  16. I am struggling to make it through this review thanks to how unlikeable Douche is. Holy crap

    • Same here. I could always take or leave Jonathan Taylor Thomas, but his character in this movie is so obnoxious that every time he was onscreen I wanted to punch him in the face! Douche even had a dollar store Screech as his lackey whom he treated like the scum you scrape off of tomato soup, who he just left to rot in a locker without giving him a second thought. What a pal! JTT somehow managed to be even more obnoxious than Ferris Bueller, and that’s an achievement!

His rival, the Reggie Mantle douche was supposed to be the antagonist, but he was just as big an a-hole as our “hero”. This film could have had Douche get dumped by Jessica Beil and then he and Douche 2 could joined up and became friends/partners, but Disney wouldn’t do that because that would be too much like thinking outside the box, which is why we once again have a completely unnecessary dead mom subplot.

  17. “Tomatoes are good for you”

    Heehee… Classic D-Bag.

  18. So really this review was about the President election results. Think about it.

    • The Real Silverstar

Democrats: you lost big, but it’s not the end of the world.

Republicans: you caught the ball in the end zone, but it’s too early to do a celebratory dance.

A little humility, civility and cooperation is required on both sides. We’ve all got work to do.

  19. I’ve never heard of this movie. Although, if I got a car award for having dinner with my family, I would totally take that bribe. On the subject of the next review, I hate the clipless reviews but I love crossovers and Star Wars so I’m actually going to looking forward to it. ^.^ One last thing: Yeah, this movie is surprisingly inappropriate for Disney. That bottle barely covered that guy’s junk. O.O

  20. So…. Um, maybe I missed it by why was DB#2 kissing the girlfriend on TV?

  21. I remember that a commercial for this was on my (I’m not proud of this) Inspector Gadget: The Movie VHS.

  22. Damn. That quote at the end was very profound. That got real

  23. The last scene made my night, it felt like when they finally let Zoidberg find happiness near the end of Futurama. I was not expecting the the way Critic handled the D-Bag and I thought it was really refreshing and thought provoking. Having watched NC for several years now, it’s nice to see these characters given development when they didn’t have to do so. While enjoying the comedy of this show I feel like I’ve learned a lot, and I hope it keeps going for many years to come.
P.S. Looking forward to seeing the review for Rogue One.

  24. So what makes asshole characters like Sherlock Holmes and Bender from “Futurama” work, but not Jonathan Taylor Thomas in this. I know that the Nostalgia Critic says that it helps to be able to identify with pieces of their humanity, but one of the characters that I mentioned was a robot who gave his first born son to the Devil for an army of the damned, and it was freakin’ hilarious to me despite how horrible something like that would normally be. So what gives?

    • For Sherlock, I think it’s because you do see some humanity underneath the coarse surface. Watson brings out his somewhat kinder side. For Bender, his behavior is supposed to shock you and is so unapologetic that you find yourself laughing. And even he was given moments where he showed a soft side. The viewer is expected to accept JTT’s behavior as charming and the movie tries to justify what he does without actually giving us anything to make us sympathize with him.

  25. Loved the ending monologue and the way he invited Chester and his girlfriend to stay in. It reminded me of the Christmas Story 2 review he did.

  26. I think this movie hurt me when I tried to watch it…

But an interesting observation that I never really thought about before…that you have to connect with characters you hate in fiction as much as you connect with characters you like.

  27. What’s an Old World Vulture doing in America?

  28. prime-10@hotmail.co.uk

NC is reviewing a movie from the 90’s? That can’t be right.

  29. I’d really like to see a review of Mousehunt if you guys had not already. <3

  30. Well, yeah, people liked assholes in the 90s. It’s the only way that you can explain how Seinfeld exists.
