Midnight Screenings: Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F

Brad and Sarah see the new Dragon Ball Z movie, the first time Brad’s seen anything Dragon Ball Z related.

About thecinemasnob

Brad Jones portrays The Cinema Snob, a pretentious film snob who is stuck with reviewing Z-Grade exploitation flicks of the past. I'm a big guy. For you.

  1. Frieza probably came back to life in pieces because his dad made him into a cyborg with the pieces before

  2. they wished for 18 to be humen but the dragon couldn’t grant it. she is tecnicly a cyborg witch is why she could have a child

  3. Since you asked, if my count is right, there are a total of 25 Dragon Ball features, but only 19 of them are movies, and of those four of them are just Dragon Ball, the series that came before Dragon Ball Z, so there are 15 total Dragon Ball Z movies.
    They are as follows:

1 Dragon Ball: Curse of the Blood Rubies
2 Dragon Ball: Sleeping Princess in Devil’s Castle
    3 Dragon Ball: Mystical Adventure
4 Dragon Ball: Path to Power
    5 Dragon Ball Z: Deadzone
    6 Dragon Ball Z: The World’s Strongest
7 Dragon Ball Z: Tree of Might
8 Dragon Ball Z: Lord Slug
    9 Dragon Ball Z: Cooler’s Revenge
10 Dragon Ball Z: The Return of Cooler
    11 Dragon Ball Z: Super Android 13
12 Dragon Ball Z: Broly The Legendary Super Saiyan
13 Dragon Ball Z: Bojack Unbound
14 Dragon Ball Z: Broly The Second Coming
15 Dragon Ball Z: Bio Broly
16 Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn
17 Dragon Ball Z: Wrath of the Dragon
18 Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods
19 Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection of Frieza
20 Dragon Ball Z: Bardock, Father of Goku
21 Dragon Ball Z: History of Trunks
22 Dragon Ball Z: Episode of Bardock
23 Dragon Ball Z: Goku and His Friends Return
24 Dragon Ball Z, One Piece, Toriko Super Collaboration Special
and finally 25 Dragon Ball GT: Legacy of Goku

1-4 are Dragon Ball movies, 5-19 are Dragon Ball Z movies, and 20-25 are specials.

  4. Battle of Gods wasn’t out of character, Vegeta was the only one who had to act contrary to how he normally would, and that is explained because he fears Lord Beerus. Gohan got caught up in his Great SaiyaMan act like he used to, if you thought him playing with Emperor Pilaf was out of character.

  5. OOOH! You didn’t know who Jaco was?! Akira Toriyama did a 12-part manga called Jaco The Intergalactic Patrolman, it was basically a prequel to Dragon Ball, Jaco is the main character from that.

  6. And by the way, it’s Frieza Force in this movie, not the Ginyu Force.

  7. Battle of the Gods was flipping fantastic. Maybe seeing it by yourself isn’t as good as seeing it in the theatre like I did. It was one of the best theatre going experiences been to.

  8. Hey Sarah if you’re still wanting to rewatch DB I’m pretty sure I saw it on the Funimation site to stream. I’m assuming they have all the eps and in English as the front page has kind of been hyping dragon ball for the last month. I don’t know if it’s one you need a membership for, most likely but $8 a month is better than the cost of buying the dvds and no filthy pirate shame. 🙂

  9. The Nostalgia Student

    Hey Brad…Pecking Order…BYEEEEEE!!!

  10. Wow, she was quite harsh to Battle of Gods, but it makes sense if you didn’t watch the original Dragon Ball series, as its more of a love letter to that. People in it for the Z style action, won’t get as much as they wanted and be put off by the wackiness that was akn to early dragon ball. Battle of Gods did have something this movie lacked though, that was a key part of Z, and that was tension. Sure Frieza can and did destroy the earth, but that’s hardly a feat in this series, there was no tension that he would actually defeat the heroes in a fight. Still loved the film(and the previous one) myself, and while I enjoyed it more, mostly because the side characters get some spotlight and Vegeta gets to shine some more, I concede the first movie as a better film overall.

    • The lack of tension in Resurrection F REALLY killed it for me, I was expecting the ultimate rematch of the century, Goku vs Freeza, good vs evil, the greatest villain in the entire series returning to haunt our heroes & push them to the brink of destruction…Only for the DB style wackiness you mentioned to totally kill the mood along with depicting Freeza as just not being up to the task of truly challenging Goku despite managing to achieve God Mode status just like him, only MUCH FASTER…Seriously, Goku didn’t go god until years after Majin Buu, whereas Freeza pulled it off in 4 months…Yeah, Freeza should honestly have the advantage here XD

Regardless, its no fun if the hero isn’t challenged & the baddie comes up short, especially since this is FREEZA we’re talking about, the most iconic villain in DBZ history, it honestly felt like a slap to the face that they wasted his full potential the way they did, I wanted to see him fight perfectly on par with Goku for a tense, evenly matched battle, OR, make Freeza so much more powerful that Goku didn’t stand a chance without thinking outside the box, like teaming up with Vegeta to double team him or something. I thought Toriyama would do Freeza more justice than the filler sagas, non-canon movies, or GT episodes had done, but I guess it was all just hype >_<

  11. Yes, you must watch DBZ Abridged, Brad. You must also make a reaction video.

  12. Someone, please, introduce Brad to DBZ: Abridged. Its the perfect introduction, and utterly, totally, pants pissingly hilarious. http://teamfourstar.com/video/tfs-abridged-parody-episode-1-2/

  13. Battle of Gods was actually pretty good. It was basicly a throwback to Dragonball wich was very lighthearted and comedic.

And 18 isn’t an android. This oddity seems to be unique to the English dubs. She and her brother are actually cyborgs.

  14. Clearly she didn’t “get” Battle of Gods. Watch the original pre-Z anime, or better yet, read the manga, then rewatch BoG. Also, If you don’t have the time to rewatch all of DBZ, try watching Kai instead. It’s better paced and has a MUCH better dub.
