You know you’re saying “explanation point”, right? Instead of the correct “exclamation point”? Sorry, that was just weird to listen to.
As for the interpretations of Mother!, I haven’t seen it, but from everything I’d seen, and from the non-spoilery reviews I’d read, I was getting exactly the same sense that you did. Meaning that the symbolism is obvious and overwrought, and doesn’t really amount to anything deep or enjoyable. I’m sure I’ll check it out eventually, but I doubt I’ll pay to see it.
I’ll also say, for what it’s worth, I kinda hated Noah, liked Black Swan well enough, and flat out despised The Wrestler. So I don’t have a great history of enjoying this guy’s films.
You are an extremely good guesser. I’m impressed. O.O Still, I don’t think I’ve ever liked a Darren Aronofsky movie so this is definitely a skip for me.
