It means nothing now.
When did it ever mean something?
Never, that’s when.
I grew up in Western Canada and do I ever remember the “Don’t You Put It In Your Mouth” song. There are a bunch more Canadian concerned children’s advertisers spots you could use. Have you seen the North American House Hippo? How about the robot from Planet Danger? There was also the “My Thing” commercial (as in “talent” get your mind out of the gutter) and the “We Are Girls” one. There was also another one about don’t touch it if you don’t know what it is that involved two mice and mousetrap but I barely remember that one.
Don’t forget the “stay fit” ones: kids chasing after ice cream truck, little kid running away from girls trying to kiss him, kid chasing after a Pokemon Card blowing away in the wind…
I kinda feel like Journey of the Sorcerer should be playing when that HBO logo shows up.
I rewatched the Nostalgia Critic review of the first two Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies today. The movie snack he chooses is the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cookies. He starts eating them but immediately spits them out. Then I remembered this review “Yes, they even had cookies back then, and as someone who tried a box of them ONCE, and am still seeing the doctor about it still even to this day, you can imagine they weren’t very good”. Wow Doug, next to the Transformers Age of Extinction review keeping tradition, that might just be the furthest reaching callback you’ve done!
HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
I know this is an old episode so no one will probably read this, but “There are no more Saturday morning cartoons” is bullshit. First, local networks still show cartoons on Saturday mornings. Second, even if cable channels like Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon play cartoons almost constantly, Saturday mornings are usually when they show new episodes.
27:09 Hey, Ray William Johnson reviewed that hilarious commercial too. Keep it strong, people!

@ 24:04: “Carter! I’m not constipated anymore!”
I think Doug is ripping off Planet of the Apes for the commercial titles.
oh I can tell you something about Mentos commercials.
They were almost the first to arrive to post-Soviet Union, they were everywhere. And now imagine seeing these cheerful ads on TV day after day, after day, while reality around you going down to hell, rapidly and without any hope.
You probably hadn’t got enough Mentos then.
I am pretty sure that someone has already shared this with you but here is the a short documentary about the making of the epic HBO intro https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=agS6ZXBrcng
As a mom of a 7 month old, I really lol’d at the Diaper Surprise joke. xP
Those crash test dummies look awesome. I will get some when I am in USA again.
If those were released today we would have idiot parents screaming that this is very inappropriate, etc.
I think the reason the Mentos commercials were so goofy is that they were recycling the european commercials, where campy was a bit more normal. I remember Mentos not being very common in the US until the 90s, but growing up in the 80s in Germany they were all over, and I remember the commercials being very similar.
HBO-Horny Boob Ogiling
I am really disappointed that there was never a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Walk of atonement set
I actually still remember and loved that Canadian commercial. Even now, watching the clip of it, I was singing along to the song lmao it was more catchy to me than actually taught me anything, though xD
