The idea with the love triangle, I think, was that Katniss and Gale knew each other so well from functioning together as hunters that she may have thought that that chemistry was romantic when in reality it isn’t chemistry it’s years of experience with each other. The two can’t share chemistry, they’re not compatible and they reflected that with the casting choice. Gale’s hot but he doesn’t have chemistry with Jennifer. That’s what I would have done if I was casting the movie after reading the books.
