A war veteran having a shit-fit about “murdering babies” and harassing people who have done nothing to him….
Well. I can at least remember George Carlin’s wisdom here: “Conservatives want live babies so they can train them to be dead soldiers.”
A local politician where I live said he was thinking of having his wife’s uterus incorporated, because that way the Republicans would leave it alone. He caught a lot of shit from local Republicans for using the word “uterus” on the floor of the state senate, as if there was something obscene about the correct clinical term for part of the female reproductive system. Gee, I wonder if the real reason was because he was calling them on their hypocrisy and they just didn’t want to admit it.
I haven’t heard of this movie until now. I don’t even know why this topic is ever a controversy. While many topics have a grey area… this one doesn’t. I couldn’t even be friends with someone who got an abortion and didn’t at least regret it. I don’t think gender has anything to do with this topic. Although, it sounds like this movie wasn’t written, filmed, or acted correctly for the most part. Why would he just assume that abortions are happening in the medical place? Why was there a shootout? The shootout ended with murder?! That kind of defeats the whole purpose of saving lives doesn’t it, even if it’s supposed to be symbolic? What!? O.O
So, a movie about abortion, written by, directed by, and starring men, in which all the female characters submissively defer to the males. What a shock.
And of course our “hero” is put-upon and persecuted by everyone, because that shows how righteous his cause is, and the fact that the clinic is operating legally and openly shows how sick the society is that allows that, and blah blah blah…
If you’re anti-abortion and don’t have at least one adopted kid, STFU. I don’t want to hear a word you have to say about it. Talk is cheap, whiskey costs money.
Huh? A Women’s clinic has to pay rent?! Weird
I loved Brad’s line: “I’ve seen women better represented in gay porn than they are in this movie.” If anyone still needs evidence that the pro-life movement has nothing to do with saving lives and everything to do with preserving male power, privilege and dominance over women, they need look no further.
Honestly, I am surprised they didn’t end with him blowing up or shooting up the Women’s Clinic, if you are going to go with your crazy movie, go all out. Besides, its not like the audience that the movie was made for wouldn’t have expected it to happen anyway. Just saying!
Unless the directors actually thought that ending would be boring and predictable. I am sure that is secretly the alternative ending is where he blows up and goes Rambo on the place.
Frankly, I get quite upset that this is apparently still such an issue with people. I don’t see how anyone can justify telling a woman what she can and can’t do with her body.
I understand that there are horrible circumstances where it may unfortunately be necessary, but what keeps me from fully supporting abortion is that I can’t get past the fact that it involves killing something that would otherwise grow into a person like you or me.
So the solution is to force women to have babies they don’t want or can’t provide for, or seek abortions from people who are unqualified to perform them (including trying to do it themselves)? Because that is historically what has happened.
I didn’t say I had a solution. It’s a crappy deal either way, and I do think more needs to be done to help women in those situations.
